The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Ave., Siler City, conducted by the Rev. David Hobson. Burial will be in West Grove Friends Meeting Cemetery, 2827 Green Hill Road, Snow Camp. Mr. Newlin was a native of Alamance County, and was a retired farmer. He was a member of West Grove Friends Meeting. Survivors are his wife, Janell Moody Newlin of Siler City; sons, Barry Newlin of Snow Camp, Gerald Newlin of Siler City, William Newlin of Burlington; daughter, Cynthia Newlin of Montclair, N.J.; sister, Martha N. A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of William Ressie Guthrie, who survives, and was the daughter of the late James Newlin and Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Guthrie Newlin. She was a member of Chatham Friends Church. Surviving with her husband are two sons, James William Guthrie of Route 1, Snow Camp and John Newlin Guthrie of, Yanceyville; four sisters, Mrs. Sarah Newlin Shaw of Route 2, Graham, Mrs. Ila Newlin Braxton of Route 1, Snow Camp, Mrs. Mary Newlin Clark of Siler City, and Miss Elizabeth, Newlin of Guilford College; three brothers, Harvey Newlin of Route 1, Snow Camp, Algie I. Newlin of Guilford College, and Ira G. Newlin of Scarsdale, N. Y.; and six grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at Chatham Friends Church by Rev. Orville, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Howard Braxton, Newlin Shaw, Alfred Newlin, Clyde Clark, David Newlin and Jimmy Newlin. Newlin SNOW CAMP -- Mrs. Annie Guethrine Newlin, 83, of Rt. 1, Snow Camp, died at her home at 8:15 o'clock Sunday night following three year of failing health and three months of critical illness. She was a native of Alamance County, daughter of the late Albert L. and Mrs. Jemima Teague Guthrie. She was a member of West Grove Friends Meeting. She attended Guilford College and taught in Alamance County schools for several years. Mrs. Newlin was a charter member of Green Hill Home Demonstration Club. Surviving are her husband, Harvey Newlin of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Bray of Fairmont and Mrs. Martha Harley of North Lima, Ohio; three sons, Harvey R. Newlin of Burlington, Burton O. Newlin of Rt. 1, Snow Camp, and Alfred C. Newlin of Rt. 3, Siler City; two brothers, John H. Guthrie and W. R. Guthrie of Rt. 1, Snow Camp; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Final rites will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at West Grove Friends Meeting. The service will be conducted after the Order of Friends. Burial will be held in the church cemetery. The body will remain at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes before the service. Greensboro News & Record Sunday, February 23, 1997 Burton Outland Newlin SNOW CAMP - Mr. Burton Outland Newlin, 84, of 3110 Newlin Road died Friday, Feb. 21, 1997, at N.C. Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, after several months of declining health and critical illness of 2 weeks. Born in Alamance County on Aug. 16, 1912, he was the husband for 61 years of Daphna Allen Newlin, who survives of the home and the second son of Harvey and Nancy "Nannie" Guthrie Newlin, both deceased. He was a retired Dairy Farmer and Barn Builder. He was a Charter member of West Grove Friends Meeting, where he was an Elder and Clerk for many years. He was a lifelong member of the Conservative Friends, a Charter member of the Board of Directors of the Eli Whitney Volunteer Fire Department and held this position for 18 years. He had been a member of the Alamance County Historical Society. After his retirement, his interest included travel and the study of Genealogy. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 1997, at McClure Funeral Home Chapel in Graham by David Hobson, pastor of Rocky River Friends Meeting, Rex Jones, pastor of Chatham Friends Meeting and Reverend Ross Carter, pastor of Center United Methodist Church. Times-News, Monday, February 20, 1967 Wedding Of Newlin And Hadley Couple Is Solemnized In Quaker Ceremony The wedding of Miss Katherine Marie Newlin and Bennett Jacob Hadley took place Saturday evening at 7 o'clock in a traditional Quaker ceremony at West Grove Friends Meeting House. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burton Outland Newlin of Route 1, Snow Camp, and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics. She is a member of the faculty of Southern Alamance High School. Mr. Hadley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Roosevelt Hadley of Route 2, Graham, attended the Modern Farming short course at North Carolina State University at Raleigh, and is engaged in dairy farming. The bride wore a formal gown of white peau de soie appliquéd with white lace. It was fashioned with a sweetheart neckline and long tapered sleeves, and the semi-fitted skirt extended into a short train. Her fingertip illusion veil was held in place by a crown of pearls over peau de soie. She carried a bouquet of white roses and wore pearls. Miss Helen Newlin, only sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Her gown of light blue satin, accented with velvet, was styled with round neckline and Empire waistline. She wore a white fur pillbox hat and carried a matching fur muff. Bridesmaids, dressed the same as the honor attendant were Miss Carolyn Kidd of Bennett and the bride's cousin, Miss Dorothy Pearle Hartley North Lima, Ohio. Tommy Hadley, only brother of the bridegroom, served as best man, and ushers were Davis Stainback of Graham, cousin of the bridegroom, and Elvin Craven, the bride's uncle from Asheboro. Mrs. David Newman directed the wedding and Miss Dianne Thomas and Mrs. Charles Crawford registered guests. For a wedding trip, the bride wore a green knit dress with brown coat and matching accessories, complemented by the corsage from her bridal bouquet. Immediately following the ceremony, the bride's parents were hosts for a reception at the meeting house. The bride's table was covered with a lace tablecloth over green and centered with an arrangement of mums, snapdragons and babies'-breath flanked by lighted white tapers in candelabra. After the honored couple had cut the first slice of cake, Mrs. Larry Valentine of Newton completed the serving. Mrs. Dale Partee, cousin of the bridegroom from Fostoria, Ohio, served punch. Assisting in serving nuts and mints were Miss Ann Allen of Asheboro and Miss Nancy Edwards of Ramseur, cousins of the bride. Newlin SNOW CAMP — Mrs. Daphna Tacy Allen Newlin, 82, of 3110 Newlin Road, died at 8:12 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at her home after three months of failing health, one week critical. Born Oct. 2, 1916, in Randolph County, she was the wife for 61 years to Mr. Burton O. Newlin, who died Feb. 21, 1997. She was the daughter of Mr. Eli Clarkston Allen and Mrs. Mishie McNeal Allen, both deceased. She was a homemaker and she and her husband were retired from operating a dairy farm for 43 years. She was a newspaper correspondent for 37 years and worked at the South Newlin Township Board of Election polls for 35 years. She was a member of the Eli Whitney Extension Homemakers Club for 64 years. She was a member of West Grove Friends Meeting, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and was an overseer at the church. She was a past member of the Alamance County Historical Society. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Katherine N. Hadley of Graham and Mrs. Helen N. Mr. Newlin, who was a native of Chatham County, was the son of the late James N. and Martha Guthrie Newlin. He was married to the late Nancy (Nannie) Guthrie Newlin, who died in 1967. He lived most of his life in Alamance County. Mr. Newlin was a minister in the Society of Friends. His primary interests in life were farming, dairying, constructing barns and homes, and the study of genealogy. He was a member of West Grove Friends Meeting. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mary Bray of Fairmont and Mrs. Martha Hartley of North Lima, Ohio; three sons, Harvey R. Newlin of Burlington, Burton O. Newlin of Rt. 1, Snow Camp and Alfred C. James Nathaniel Newlin, aged 73 year, one of south Alamance's leading citizens, died at his home near Snow Camp this morning at 8 O'clock following failing health of some length, with critical illness of heart trouble only a few hours. Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon at West Grove church, south Alamance, in which church the deceased was a life-long and leading member, and interment will be made in the church cemetery. He is survived by the the following sons and daughters; Mrs. Sarah Shaw, Mrs. Ila Braxton, Mrs. Alton Guthrie, Route 1, Saxapahaw; Harvey Newlin, Snow Camp; Mrs. Mary Clark, Siler City; Miss Elizabeth Newlin, Greensboro; Algie Newlin, Geneva, Switzerland; Ira Newlin, Mt. She has no survivors but the one son. Funeral service was held this afternoon at 3 o'clock at West Grove Friends church, in Chatham, to which the deceased belonged most of her life. Her pastor. Rev. Shaw of Pittsboro and Fred Shaw and Newlin Shaw, both of Rt. 2, Graham; three sisters, Mrs. Ila Braxton of Rt. 1, Snow Camp, Mrs. Mary Clark of Rt. 4, Siler City, and Miss Elizabeth Newlin of Guilford College; two brothers, Dr. A I. Newlin of Guilford College and Ira G. Newlin of Scarsdale, N. Y.; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Final rites will be held Friday afternoon t 2:30 o'clock at Center United Methodist Church. The Rev. Orville E. Leonard, pastor, will conduct the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will remain at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock. _______________________________________
