NOTES: 1900 Beaufort Co., NC Census (Washington Twp. - Town of Washington) - June 12, 1900; 502 E. 2nd Street
Brides Index for Beaufort Co.,
NC; Vol. 1 (1847-1909) From the census records that I could find and the Bible record above, it appears that Edward Taylor Powell, Sr. was born on June 10, 1882 and died September 19, 1911, three years after Alice Virginia Hollowell married him. From the 1930 census it appears that during those 3 years of marriage they had 2 children: Edward Taylor Powell, Jr. and William E. Powell. Since Andrew Laurie [Jr.] was born in Virginia in 1921 it is assumed that Alice Virginia married Andrew Laurie, Sr. probably before 1920 and very possibly she married him in Virginia. No birth or death date has been found for Andrew Laurie, Sr. but by 1930 Alice is again a widow of a Skittlethorpe. A death certificate for William Edward Skittlethorpe (1872-1928) reveals that Alice was his widow. She is listed as "Mrs. Alice Hollowell Laurie" as the surviving spouse but in the informant box she is listed as "Mrs. Alice Skittlethorpe".
