State of North Carolina

Know all men by these presents, that we JOSEPH GREEN, D. D. ALLEN, & J. H. PRITCHETT of Brunswick Count, in the State aforesaid, are held and firmly bound unto the State of North Carolina, in the sum of Eight hundred dollars, current money, to be paid to the said State in trust for the benefit of the minors hereafter named, committed to the tuition of the said JOSEPH GREEN to the payment whereof, well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents; signed with our hands, and sealed with our seals, this 5th day of March A.D. 1849.

The condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas the above bounden Joseph GREEN is constituted and appointed guardian to JAMES G. WILLIAMS, MARY J. WILLIAMS, AGNES WILLIAMS, ELIZA WILLIAMS, & ABRAM WILLIAMS children of HENRY H. WILLIAMS deceased, now if the said JOSEPH GREEN shall faithfully execute his said guardianship, and particularly shall well and truly secure and improve all the estate of the said J. G, MARY J., AGNES, ELIZA & ABRAM WILLIAMS that shall come into his possession for the benefit of the said minors until they shall arrive at full age, or be sooner thereto required, and shall render a plain and true account of his said guardianship, on oath, before the Justices of our said Court, in all cases as required by law, and deliver up, pay or possess the said JAMES. G, MARY J., AGNES, ELIZA & ABRAM WILLIAMS, of all such estate or estates as they ought to be possessed of, when lawfully required by the said minors or to such other persons as shall be lawfully empowered or authorized to receive the same, and the profits arising therefrom - then this obligation is to be void; otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.

*Joseph Green of Brunswick Co., NC was born in 1816 in Wayne Co., NC. He was the son of James Green, b. 1770 in Wayne Co., NC and Martha Betsy Oliver.

*James Green, b. 1770 was the son of Joseph Green, b. 1744 in Craven Co., NC and Sarah Ann Whitfield, b. 16 APR 1749 in Wayne Co., NC.

*Sarah Ann Whitfield was the daughter of William Whitfield and Rachael Bryan of Bertie Co., NC. Sarah Ann Whitfield's brother was William Whitfield III b. 1743. William Whitfield III b. 1743 married Hester Williams b. 1747 in Duplin Co., NC, daughter of Joseph Williams and Mary Hix. Sarah Ann Whitfield's sister, Elizabeth Whitfield married Alexander Smith.

W. 44 yrs., William B. 18 yrs., Mary E., Ann R., P.W.C. a 25 year old merchant, Susan C. age 22 yrs., John W. Leonard 14 years of age, Nicholas Mechson (?) age 60 yrs., a laborer b. in Germany, Otaway Burns 19 yrs., the Overseer, and Calvin Freeman a 19 year old mulatto Laborer.
