COMPANY B, 11th REGIMENT N. C. TROOPS

This company was composed primarily of men from Burke, Wilkes, and Caldwell counties and began organizing on or about December 20, 1861. On March 31, 1862, it was mustered in as Company B of this regiment. After that date the company functioned as a part of the regiment, and its history for the war period is recorded as a part of the regimental history.

The information contained in the following roster of the company was compiled principally from company muster rolls for May, 1862, through February, 1865. No company muster rolls were found for the period prior to May, 1862, or for the period after February, 1865. In addition to the company muster rolls, Roll of Honor records, receipt rolls, hospital records, prisoner of war records, and other primary records, supplemented by state pension applications, United Daughters of the Confederacy records, and postwar rosters and histories, all provided useful information.

CAPTAINS

ARMFIELD. MARK D., Captain. Previously served as 2nd Lieutenant in Company G, 1st Regiment N.C. Infantry (6 months, 1861). Appointed Captain of this company to rank from December 3, 1861. Present or accounted for until captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 3-4, 1863. Confined at Fort McHenry, Maryland, and at Fort Delaware, Delaware, until transferred to Johnson's Island, Ohio, July 18, 1863. Died at Johnson's Island on December 3, 1863, of "general debility."

PARKS, THOMAS R., Captain. Previously served as Sergeant in Company G, 1st Regiment N.C. Infantry (6 months, 1861). Appointed 1st Lieutenant in this company to rank from February 15, 1862. Present or accounted for until captured at Falling Waters, Maryland, July 14, 1863. Confined at Baltimore, Maryland, and at Point Lookout, Maryland. Promoted to Captain on December 3, 1863, while a prisoner of war. Paroled at Point Lookout on March 3, 1864, and transferred for exchange. Rejoined the company in May-June, 1864, and present or accounted for until paroled at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, April 9, 1865.

LIEUTENANTS

DORSEY, ELISHA WESLEY, 1st Lieutenant. Resided in Burke County and enlisted at age 26. Appointed 3rd Lieutenant to rank from February 15, 1862. Present or accounted for until wounded in the right leg and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-5, 1863. Right leg amputated. Hospitalized at various Federal hospitals. Promoted to 1st Lieutenant in December, 1863, while a prisoner of war. Paroled and exchanged in December, 1864. Captured in hospital at Richmond, Virginia, April 3, 1865, and paroled on April 27, 1865.

WALKER, ELISHA FLETCHER, 3rd Lieutenant. Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 28, February 1, 1862, for the war. Mustered in as Private. Present or accounted for until wounded in the shoulder and side at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-3, 1863. Rejoined the company in September-October, 1863, and was appointed 3rd Lieutenant on February 15, 1864. Present or accounted for until captured near Petersburg, Virginia, October 27, 1864. Confined at Old Capitol Prison, Washington, D.C., until transferred to Fort Delaware, Delaware, December 16, 1864. Released at Fort Delaware on June 17, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance. North Carolina pension records indicate he was wounded in the leg at Wilderness, Virginia.

WARLICK, JOHN L., 2nd Lieutenant. Previously served as Corporal in Company G, 1st Regiment N.C. Infantry (6 months, 1861). Enlisted in this company on May 15, 1862, with the rank of Private. Promoted to Corporal on August 19, 1862, and promoted to Sergeant in November-December, Present or accounted for until wounded and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-4, Hospitalized at Gettysburg until transferred to Davids Island, New York Harbor, July 17-24, Paroled at Davids Island on August 24, 1863, and transferred for exchange. Promoted to 1st Sergeant in November-December, 1863, and appointed 2nd Lieutenant to rank from February 15, Rejoined the company in March-April, 1864, and present or accounted for until paroled at Farmville, Virginia, April 11-21, 1865.

WARLICK, PORTLAND A., 2nd Lieutenant. Previously served as Private in Company G, 1st Regiment N.C. Infantry (6 months, 1861). Appointed 2nd Lieutenant in this company to rank from February 15, 1862. Present or accounted for until wounded in the left arm at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 3, 1863. Reported absent wounded or absent sick until he died in hospital at Richmond, Virginia, December 28, 1863, of "typhoid pneumonia."

Paroled at Davids Island and transferred to City Point, Virginia, where he was received October 28, 1863, for exchange. Reported absent wounded through February, 1865.

Present or accounted for until wounded in the left leg at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 3, 1863. Captured at Falling Waters, Maryland, July 14, 1863. ANTHONY, J. J., Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 37, February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until hospitalized at Wilmington on or about July 6, 1862, with a gunshot wound; however, place and date wounded not reported. Returned to duty July 22, 1862, and present or accounted for until he died in hospital at Richmond, Virginia, June 13, 1863, of "febris typhoides."

ANTHONY, P. B., Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 28, February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until wounded at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-3, 1863. Died in hospital at Harrisonburg, Virginia, July 18, 1863, or wounds and/or "febris typhoides." [May have served previously in Company G, 1st Regiment N.C. Infantry (6 months, 1861).]

BAKER, M., Private - Enlisted in Burke County on February 15, 1862, for the war. Company muster roll dated July-August, 1862, indicates that he "enlisted & after-[wards] he joined another company in Caldwell County." No further records.

BEACH, J., Private - Enlisted in Burke County on February 1, 1862, for the war. Company muster roll dated July-August, 1862, states that he "belonged to another com-[pany] & [was] never sworn in."

BOWMAN, JACOB, Private - Resided in Caldwell County where he enlisted at age 30, February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at Falling Waters, Maryland, July 14, 1863. Confined at Baltimore, Maryland, and at Point Lookout, Maryland, until paroled on March 3, 1864, and transferred for exchange. Deserted on or about May 2, 1864.

BOWMAN, SAMUEL, Private - Previously served in Company F, 41st Regiment N.C. Troops (3rd Regiment N.C. Cavalry). Transferred to this company on December 5, 1864. Present or accounted for until captured at or near Petersburg, Virginia, April 2, 1865. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until released on June 23, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.

CARLTON, R. W., Corporal - Previously served as Private in Company G, 1st Regiment N.C. Infantry (6 months, 1861). Enlisted in this company on December 20, 1861, for the war. Mustered in as Corporal. Present or accounted for until wounded and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-5, 1863. Confined at Fort Delaware, Delaware, where he died September 16, 1863, of "chronic diarrhoea."

Cordell.] Enlisted in this company on January 15, 1862, for the war. Mustered in as Musician but reduced to ranks in September-October, 1862. Present or accounted for until wounded at White Hall on December 16, 1862. Reported absent wounded through February, 1865. Paroled at Morganton on May 16, 1865.

CARSWELL, NATHAN, Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 28, February 11, 1863, for the war. Present or accounted for until he deserted on August 5, 1863.

CARSWELL, R. R., Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 30, February 11, 1863, for the war. Present or accounted for until wounded and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-4, 1863. Hospitalized at Gettysburg until transferred to Davids Island, New York Harbor, July 17-24, 1863. Paroled at Davids Island on August 24, 1863, and transferred for exchange. Reported absent wounded until reported absent without leave on November 1, 186S. Company muster roll dated March-April, 1864, states he was "in the woods as a deserter." Company records do not indicate that he returned to duty; however, he was paroled at Morganton on May 16, 1865.

CARSWELL, THOMAS H., Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 26, February 11, 1863, for the war. Present or accounted for until he deserted on June 22, 1863. Returned to duty on August 29, 1863, and present or accounted for until he deserted to the enemy on or about March 29, 1865. Paroled on or about May 23, 1865.

CAUSBY, D. A., Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 38, January 15, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at Falling Waters, Maryland, July 14, 1863. Confined at Baltimore, Maryland, until transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland, on or about August 21, 1863. Died in hospital at Point Lookout on March 10, 1864, of "chro[nic] diarrhoea."

CHAPMAN, WILLIAM, Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 26, February 11, 1863, for the war. Present or accounted for until he deserted on or about June 22, 1863. Company records do not indicate that he returned to duty; however, North Carolina pension records indicate that he was mortally wounded in North Carolina in March, 1865.

CHESTER, J. M., Private - Resided in Burke County and enlisted at Camp Vance on May 23, 1864, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at or near Petersburg, Virginia, April 2, 1865. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until released on June 24, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.

CLARK, JOHN M., Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 25, January 15, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at Falling Waters, Maryland, July 14, 1863. Confined at Baltimore, Maryland, and at Point Lookout, Maryland, until released on January 21, 1864, after taking the Oath of Allegiance and joining the U.S. service. Reportedly assigned to the 1st Regiment U.S. Volunteer Infantry; however, records of that unit do not indicate that he served therein. No further records.

Present or accounted for until reported absent without leave from August 25, 1863, through October, 1863. Rejoined the company in November-December, and present or accounted for until reported absent without leave from November-December, through February, 1865.

CLAUNTZ, JONES, Private - Enlisted in Burke County on October 20, 1864, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured in hospital at Richmond, Virginia, April 3, 1865. CRUMP, E. M., Private - Enlisted in Caldwell County on February 1, 1862, for the war. Reported absent without leave in May-June, 1862. Company muster roll dated July-August, 1862, states that he joined another company in Caldwell County. No further records.

DALE, DAVID, Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 28, February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until discharged on June 23, 1862, by reason of "disability."

DAVIS, B. L., Private - Resided in McDowell County where he enlisted at age 18, February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at Falling Waters, Maryland, July 14, 1863. Confined at Old Capitol Prison, Washington, D.C., until transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland, August 8, 1863. Paroled at Point Lookout and transferred to Venus Point, Savannah River, Georgia, November 15, 1864. Rejoined the company in January-February, 1865, and present or accounted for until captured at or near Petersburg, Virginia, April 2, 1865. Confined at Point Lookout until released on June 26, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance. Roll of Honor indicates he was wounded at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

DAY, SAMUEL M., Private - Resided in Caldwell County where he enlisted at age 38, February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-5, 1863. Confined at Fort Delaware, Delaware, until transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland, October 15-18, 1863. Confined at Point Lookout until paroled on February 18, 1865, and transferred for exchange. Reported present with a detachment of paroled and exchanged prisoners at Camp Lee, near Richmond, Virginia, February 28, 1865.

DORSEY, THOMAS A., Private - Previously served in Company G, 1st Regiment N.C. Infantry (6 months, 1861). Enlisted in this company on February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until wounded and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-5, 1863. Hospitalized at Gettysburg and at Baltimore, Maryland, until paroled on November 12, 1863. Rejoined the company in January-February, 1864, and was promoted to Corporal February 15, 1864. Reduced to ranks August 29, 1864. Present or accounted for until he was reported transferred to the 41st Regiment N.C. Troops (3rd Regiment N.C. Cavalry) on December 7, 1864; however, records of that regiment do not indicate that he served therein.

DUCKWORTH, J. N., Private - Born in Burke County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Burke County at age 16, February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until wounded and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-5, 1863. Hospitalized at Gettysburg until transferred to Davids Island, New York Harbor, July 17-24, 1863. Paroled at Davids Island and transferred for exchange on or about September 27, 1863. Rejoined the company in January-February, 1864, and present or accounted for until discharged on February 3, 1865, by reason of "the expiration of his enlistment."

DUCKWORTH, WALTER, Private - Resided in Burke County and was by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting in Burke County at age 30, February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until killed at White Hall on December 16, 1862.

DUCKWORTH, WILLIAM, Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 34, December 15, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until killed at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1, 1863.

DUVAL, JOHN M., 1st Sergeant - Previously served as Private in Company G, 1st Regiment N.C. Infantry (6 months, 1861). Enlisted in this company on December 20, 1861, for the war. Mustered in as Sergeant. Present or accounted for until wounded at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1, 1863. Captured at Hagerstown, Maryland, at an unspecified date and died at Hagerstown in August, 1863, of wounds. Company records indicate he was promoted to 1st Sergeant in September-October, 1863. No further records.

EATON, J. H., Private - Previously served in Company G, 9th Regiment N.C. State Troops (1st Regiment N.C. Cavalry). Transferred to this company on December 5, 1864. Present or accounted for through February, 1865.

ELLIOTT, HIRAM C., Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 35, February 26, 1863, for the war. Present or accounted for until paroled at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, April 9, 1865.

ERNEST, HAMILTON, Private - Born in Burke County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Burke County at age 23, February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until discharged on August 19, 1862, by reason of "frequent paraxems of nervous depression" and an injury to the left side of the chest "received while wrestling with a man who fell on him."

ERWIN, GEORGE PHIFER, 1st Sergeant - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 21, December 20, 1861, for the war. Mustered in as Sergeant and promoted to 1st Sergeant on December 20, 1862. Present or accounted for until appointed Assistant Quartermaster and transferred to the 60th Regiment N.C. Troops on or about May 13, 1861.

FERREE, THOMAS C, Sergeant - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 24, February 1, 1862, for the war. Mustered in as Private and promoted to Sergeant on September 1, 1863. Present or accounted for until he died in hospital at Richmond, Virginia, October 29, 1864, of "diarrhoea chronica."

FINCANNON, JOHN, Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 30, February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until wounded at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-3, 1863. Returned to duty prior to September 1, 1863, and present or accounted for until he died on August 18, 1864. Place and cause of death not reported.

GALLOWAY, H. H., Sergeant - Previously served as Private in Company G, 1st Regiment N.C. Infantry (6 months, 1861). Enlisted in this company on December 20, 1861, for the war. Mustered in as Corporal. Present or accounted for until captured at Falling Waters, Maryland, July 14, 1863. Confined at Baltimore, Maryland, and at Point Lookout, Maryland. Born in Burke County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Burke County at age 17, February 1, 1862, for the war. Mustered in as Private. Present or accounted for until wounded in the left arm at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-3, 1863. Rejoined the company in January-February, 1864, and was promoted to Corporal on February 15, 1864. Present or accounted for until captured at Petersburg, Virginia, April 3, 1865. Confined at Hart's Island, New York Harbor, until released on or about June 19, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.

SINGLETON, M, D., Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 21, February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until he died on March 1, 1864. Place and cause of death not reported. [May have served previously in Company G, 1st Regiment N.C. Infantry (6 months, 1861).]

SINGLETON. R. W., Private - Enlisted in Burke County on October 5, 1864, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at Hatcher's Run, Virginia, April 2, 1865. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until released on June 4, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.

SINGLETON, S. S., Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 22, February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at Falling Waters, Maryland, July 14, 1863. Confined at Baltimore, Maryland, and at Point Lookout, Maryland, until paroled and transferred for exchange on March 16, 1864. Rejoined the company in May-June, 1864, and present or accounted for until paroled at Lynchburg, Virginia, April 15, 1865.

SLOAN, JOHN, Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted on October 20, 1864, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at Hatcher's Run, Virginia, March 29, 1865. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until released on June 20, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.

SMITH, ALEXANDER, Private - Resided in Burke County and enlisted at age 20, March 5, 1863, for the war. Present or accounted for until he deserted near Culpeper, Virginia, June 22, 1863.

SMITH, ALVA, Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 21, February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at Falling Waters, Maryland, July 14, 1863. Confined at Baltimore, Maryland, and at Point Lookout, Maryland, until paroled and transferred for exchange on March 16, 1864. Rejoined the company in May-June, 1864, and present or accounted for until wounded in the right knee at Petersburg, Virginia, in June-October, 1864. Reported absent wounded until retired to the Invalid Corps on December 22, 1864.

SMITH, ANDERSON, Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 25, February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until reported "missing on [the] march" in May-June, 1864, Court-martialed on or about June 22, 1864. Present or accounted for until reported absent without leave in January-February, 1865. Rejoined the company prior to April 2, 1865, when he was captured at or near Petersburg, Virginia. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until released on June 20, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.

SMITH, E. C, Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted on January 7, 1865, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at Hatcher's Run, Virginia, April 2, 1865. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until released on June 20, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.

SMITH, HENRY, Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 18, February 13, 1863, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at Falling Waters, Maryland, July 14, 1863. Confined at Baltimore, Maryland, and at Point Lookout, Maryland, until paroled and transferred for exchange on March 16, 1864. Rejoined the company in July-August, 1864, and present or accounted for until wounded in the left eye at Petersburg, Virginia, October 2, 1864. Returned to duty on January 20, 1865, and present or accounted for until captured at or near Petersburg, April 2, 1865. Confined at Point Lookout until released on June 20, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.

SMITH, J. C, Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 25, February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at Falling Waters, Maryland, July 14, 1863. Confined at Baltimore, Maryland, and at Point Lookout, Maryland, until paroled and transferred for exchange on March 16, 1864. Rejoined the company in May-June, 1864, and present or accounted for through February, 1865. Paroled at Morganton on May 16, 1865.

SMITH, THOMAS, Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 26, April 10, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until he deserted near Culpeper, Virginia, June 22, 1863.

SMITH, WILLIAM A., Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 28, February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until wounded and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-3, 1863. Hospitalized at Gettysburg until transferred to Davids Island, New York Harbor, on or about July 17, 1863. Died in hospital at Davids Island on October 1, 1863, of wounds.

STACY, GEORGE L., Private Previously served in Company G, 1st Regiment N.C. Infantry (6 months, 1861). Enlisted in this company on February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-4, 1863. Confined at Fort Delaware, Delaware, until transferred to Fort Mifflin, Pennsylvania, on or about November 30, 1863. Took the Oath of Allegiance at Fort Mifflin or deserted from Fort Mifflin on May 16, 1864. No further records.

STILL, J. D., Private - Place and date of enlistment not reported. Paroled at Charlotte on May 16, 1865.

SUDDERTH, ROBERT WINSLOW, Private - Previously served in Company F, 41st Regiment N.C. Troops (3rd Regiment N.C. Cavalry). Transferred to this company on December 5, 1864. Present or accounted for until captured at or near Petersburg, Virginia, April 2, 1865. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until released on June 20, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.

SWINK, ARCHIBALD, Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 26, February 13, 1863, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at or near Petersburg, Virginia, October 27, 1864. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until released on June 20, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.

TEEM, J. P., Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 18, April 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-4, 1863. Confined at Fort Delaware, Delaware, until transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland, October 15-18, 1863. Confined at Point Lookout until paroled and transferred for exchange on or about February 10, 1865. Reported in hospital at Richmond, Virginia, February 15, 1865. Paroled at Salisbury on May 25, 1865.

TEEM, WILLIAM C, Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted on August 31, 1863, for the war. Present or accounted for until reported absent wounded in September-October, 1864; however, place and date wounded not reported. Rejoined the company in November-December, 1864, and present or accounted for until captured at or near Petersburg, Virginia, April 2, 1865. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until released on June 21, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.

WAKEFIELD, S. D., Private - Previously served in Company G, 1st Regiment N.C. Infantry (6 months, 1861). Enlisted in this company on February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until wounded and captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-3, 1863. Confined at Fort Delaware, Delaware, where he died on September 10, 1863, of "chronic diarrhoea."

WALKER, J. R., Private - Resided in Rutherford County where he enlisted on October 1, 1863, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at or near Petersburg, Virginia, October 27, 1864. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until released on May 14, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance

WALKER, JOSEPH, Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 30, February 28, 1863, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at or near Petersburg, Virginia, April 2, 1865. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until released on June 21, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.

WARLICK, A. P., Corporal - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 19, April 29, 1862, for the war. Mustered in as Private. Present or accounted for until wounded at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1-3, 1863. Returned to duty prior to September 1, 1863, and was promoted to Corporal on November 1, 1863. Present or accounted for until hospitalized at Richmond, Virginia, June 16, 1864, with a gunshot wound and diarrhoea; however, place and date wounded not reported. Died June 30. 1864, of "diarrhoea ch[ronic]."

WARLICK, D. LOGAN, Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 40, November 1, 1863, for the war. Present or accounted for until killed at Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia, May 12, 1864.

WARLICK, W. J., Private - Enlisted in Burke County on April 15, 1864, for the war. Present or accounted for through February, 1865.

WATTS, HOSEA, Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 30, March 5, 1863, for the war. Present or accounted for until he deserted on April 29, 1863.

WATTS, JOHN, Private - Enlisted in Burke County on November 20, 1864, for the war. Present or accounted for until captured at Hatcher's Run, Virginia, April 2, 1865. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, where he died April 21, 1865, of "inf of the lungs."

WILLIAMS, R. G., Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 22, February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until hospitalized at Farmville, Virginia, May 10-11, 1864, with a gunshot wound; however, place and date wounded not reported. Rejoined the company in September-October, 1864, and present or accounted for until captured near Petersburg, Virginia, March 25, 1865. Confined at Point Lookout. Maryland, until released on June 17, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.

YORK, WILLIAM, Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 38, March 5, 1863, for the war. Present or accounted for until he deserted on April 29, 1863.
