ALEXANDER
John ALEXANDER was born about 1740, probably in Scotland. He died 1799 or 1800 at Ball's Creek, which was at that time in Lincoln County. He married first, Jane THOMSON, and second, Mary MORRISON, who was a widow. We do not know what Mary's maiden name was or who was her first husband. They took out the bond to marry in Mecklenberg County, which we believe, was where she was living. John and his first wife had 4 children, one of whom reached adulthood. John and his second wife had 8 or 9 children, all of whom lived to adulthood and traveled from NC to MO after John died. I would be very interested in communicating with anyone researching this family.Aileen Brewer Thu, 19 Mar 1998 20:42:56 EST

Miles YOUNT
I am searching for information on Miles YOUNT, of Catawba County, NC. I know that he was born in about 1845, possibly the son of Joseph Yount, Sr. and Catharine Yount. He enlisted in 1861 in Co. A, 12th Regiment, NC Troops at age 26 in 1861. He was promoted to 1st Lt. and was wounded at South Mountain, causing paralysis in the arm. He was put in the invalid corps. After the war, he became a bridge builder and was working on a bridge in either the Haw or Neuse River and fell in and drowned. This information was printed in the book, The Catawba Soldier of the Civil War and was provided by my great grandfather, Henry Philip Rudisill. It also stated the Miles was Henry's brother in law. Henry did marry Olivia Clementine Yount, daughter of Franklin and Jemima Yount , but the only brother I can find for her who fought inthe War was Sydney Leander. He lived on the Catawba River at Island Creek near Island Ford and received a 200 acre state land grant, 1783 on this land. It was granted in the name of Robert Houston, which was scratched out and "Joseph" written in. Is there a connection to a Robert/William/Joseph Houston? MASSEY
The Nicholas Massey family bought land along the East side of the Catawba river , Rowan Co. (now Iredell), N.C. in 1764. Nicholas Massey's sons were Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. His daughters were Sarah (SHERRILL), Rachel (STOWE), Henrietta (HADDON/HADEN), Lucresa (BRADLEY), Priscilla (LOWRANCE), Hannah (MCENTIRE/MCINTYRE), Catherine (BARRIER). Nicholas' 2nd wife was Lucretia __. I am trying to find the connection between Ebenezer Massey , born 1778 in NC and Nicholas Massey. I believe Ebenezer is Nicholas' son by 2nd wife, Lucretia. Ebenezer is listed in tax polls with Nicholas and bought most of Nicholas's land after his death. Can anyone help with this connection? I am also searching for the maiden name of Ebenezer's wife, Nancy ___. Isaac Massey's land grant was along Falling Creek and Abraham's grant connected to Isaac's. Jacob Sherrill's land was close to the previous two. Isaac Massey disappeared from the family previous to 1809 when Nicholas Massey died, and did not receive his share of the inheritance. I think Isaac and his family moved west. Perhaps there was a rift in the family. The only clue I have to Isaac's family is the signature of Nanny (Nancy) CRAGE plus Isaac's on the bill of sale for the land on Falling Creek in 1807. I would also like to correspond with anyone researching the WALLACE/WALLIS family. My gggrandmother was Margaret Eveline WALLACE married to Abraham S.
