• The Death of Col. Daniel Boone (from the Chillicothe (Ohio) Supporter.
As he lived, so he died with his gun in his hand. We are informed by a gentleman direct from Boon's settlement on the Missouri, that early
in last month colonel Boon road to a deer lick, and seated himself within a blind raised to conceal him from the game. That while sitting
thus concealed, with his trusty rifle in his hand, pointed towards the lick, the muzzle resting on a log, his face to the breech of his gun,
his rifle cocked, his finger on the trigger one eye shut; the other looking along the barrel through the sights-in this position, without
struggle or motion, and of course without paint, he breathed out his last. The Mississippi State Gazette

• Died at Charrette village, in the State of Missouri, on the 26th September last, Col. Daniel Boone, the first settler of
Kentucky, in the 90th year of his age. He was a native of Bucks county, Pennsylvania; he left that state at 18 years old, and settled in
North Carolina. He was one of the few men or our country whose enterprize led him to search into the wilderness for the best tracts of land
for man to inhabit. As early as the year 1775, he removed with his family, and settled on the Kentucky river, (with the loss of his eldest
son, killed by the Indians,) at a plain now called Boonsborough, then an Indian country, where he remained until the year 1799. During this
period of time, although most of his time had been spent in agricultural pursuits, and he had been frequently honored by his countrymen, as
a member of the Virginia legislature, and lived, at the close of the Revolutionary war, in peace and plenty, yet, such was his delight in
hunting-such his devotedness to it, that in the year 1799, with a numerous train of followers, he removed Kentucky, and settled on the Femme
Osage River, which empties itself into the Missouri river about 50 miles above its mouth, then a wilderness. The year after he discovered the
Boon's Lick country, which now forms one of the best settlements of the state. In that year he also visited the head waters of the Grand Osage
River, and spent the winter upon the head waters of the river Arkansas. At the age of 80, in company with one white man and a black man, whom
he laid under strict injunction to return him to his family, dead or alive, he made a hunting trip to the head waters of the Great Osage, where
he was successful in trapping of beaver, and in taking other game.
Colonel Boon was a man of common stature, of great enterprize, strong intellect, amiable disposition, and inciolable integrity. He • Died

• Died on the 10th instant, at his father's residence, on Rockfish, Robeson county, Daniel Shaw, son of Mr. Angus Shaw, in the 19th year of his
age, after two months of unparalleled suffering, a promising and highly respectable youth. He came to his death in the following manner: he
was engaged in felling a tree in company with his father's negro man, and after cutting his own side, turned to the other's to see how he was
progressing; when getting in the proper position, seemingly as if to reeive the fatal stroke, the axe flew off the helve, and struck him in
the lower part of the belly, which, in the course of two months terminated his existence, in spite of every effort to save him. The circumstance
is related, in order to put others on their guard, who are accustomed to use this deadly weapon; and at the same time to remind us, that altho'
in life, and seemingly in a state of security, death, with his many attendants, is treading close on our heels.

accurate, firm, and decisive-his disposition was just, humane and beneficent. Perhaps no man has ever produced so great effect on the industry,
wealth and commerce of his country. Before he invented the gin for cleaning upland cotton, the fibre of that article was separated from the
seed by the hunam hand, and it was cultivated only for domestic uses. In consequence of that invention, it now forms the greatest and most
important staple of America-in bulk sufficient to give employment to more than five hundred ships and in annual value not less than twenty

society sustains so great a loss as it has in this dispensation of Divine will. His habits as a gentleman, his economy and industry as
an agriculturist were certainly worthy of the highest respect and applause; but to his afflicted family the loss is infinite, it is
irreparable; it is a loss that all the efforts of human cannot restore to them. Although his constitution and health had been impaired
and enervated by the toil and industry which he used in the prosecution of his agricultural pursuits, still his judgment was sound and
discerning; and such was the unanimity of soul and action in the family of Mr. McNeill, that Heaven seemed to crown all their exertions
with signal success. His devotion to his family secured to him in the highest degree, their warmest affection and veneration. Yet his
affectionate wife, son and daughter are not all who have cause to lament his death....
