Thomas James JORDAN (1835-1896) was b Fayetteville Cumberland Co to Ann SNOW d/o Absolom SNOW/Flora McPHAIL. No father known. I suspect his father was Thomas James JORDAN, an adult in Fayetteville at the time of his birth. The younger Thomas JORDAN marr 1857 in Fayetteville Baptist Church Ann Elliott MASSEY (1837-1901), d/o Thomas Howard MASSEY/Mary ELLIOTT.

Was the older Thomas JORDAN related to Dillon, Charles and Isabella JORDAN? If so, how? These three siblings moved south around 1838, Dillon and Charles went to Pensacola FL. A Thomas James JORDAN d 1848 and is buried Pensacola. Could he be the adult who was in Fayetteville 1830's. Any help greatly appreciated. Will exchange information with kin. Do you know if there is a list of "Oaths of Allegiance", or something like it, that was recorded after the Civil War in Cumberland Co. I have found similar records in GA. Supposedly, my Reden McLEMORE of Cumberland Co. (1850, 60, & 70 Census) fought in the Civil War and I can't find him listed anywhere! I'm wondering if a list as I mentioned above exists for Cumberland Co, and maybe I could find him on it. I'm wondering if he used a formal name and Reden was a nick name as I have seen it spelled at least 3 ways. Thanks! Teri   Posted March 12, 2000

I have a receipt or payment voucher from my great-great-grandfather to a SAMUEL (?), Middle initial could be T, J, or I, HAWLEY or HANLEY or even HARLEY who was apparently a tanner in Fayetteville in 1840. The document is dated April 15, 1840 and is for shoemaking supplies, including leather, thread, bristles and some other things I have yet to decipher.
