Cumberland County, NC Guardian Bonds

1787 - Rachel and James Willson, being of proper age, chose their mother, Rachel 
Willson, as their guardian.  Bond: f500; securities: Samuel Carver (Abel Holton 
crossed out) and Samuel Hollingsworth; she also to be guardian to Margaret and Sylvs.
Willson and Ann Willson.

June Term 1805:
Caroline Mallet daughter of Peter Mallett dec'd chose her mother Mrs Sarah Mallett her guardian 
– and the said Sarah Mallett appointed guardian to Henrietta and Sarah two orphan daughters of said 
Peter Mallett – she to give bond in the sum of six thousand pounds with Robinson Mumford Sr and 
Robinson Mumford Junr securities. 

Dec Term 1806:
Susannah Phillips appointed guardian to her daughter Catharine Phillips she entered into bond in the 
sum of one hundred pounds with Morris Smith and John Bell securities – daughter of John Phillips 
dec'd ... Joel Williams Junr Hector Steward John Smith Philemon Hodges and Joel Williams Senr are 
appointed to Catharine Phillips a minor, daughter of John Phillips dec'd It being represented that 
Stephen Phillips and Alexander Phillips co heirs of Catharine Phillips being resident without the state 
– Ordered that publication be made in the Fayetteville Intelligencer for three weeks – that the said 
Stephen and Alexander appear at the next Term and show cause if any they have wherefore the land 
appertaining to said Catharine should not be laid off.

Dec Term 1806:
Patsy Williams daughter of Samuel Williams dec'd came into court and chose Harry Williams her 
Guardian who entered into bond in the sum of two thousand pounds with Hector McAlester and 
Alexander McKay securities.

Izilla Williams daughter of Samuel Williams dec'd came into court and chose her mother Ferebee 
Williams her Guardian – she entered into bond in the sum of two thousand pounds with Harry Williams 
and Hector McAlester securities.

Duncan McRae the brother of Margaret and Isabella McRae appointed their Guardian.

Margaret Ferguson appointed Guardian to Jenny, John, Daniel, Sally, Peggy and Dugald Ferguson, she 
entered into bond the sum of one thousand and twenty pounds with Israel Folsom and Duncan Thompson 
securities. [see Jan Term 1805]

Neill Buie senr appointed Guardian ad litem to the children of John Buie dec'd namely William Buie 
and John Buie.

June Term 1807:
Anna Turner came into court and made choice of her Step Father George Elliott her Guardian – who was 
accordingly appointed – he entered into bond of two thousand pounds with William Colvin and Daniel 
McLean securities.

It appearing to this court that William Buie and John Buie the two minor sons of John Buie dec'd  
are in the custody of Neill Buie senr and Duncan Buie junr and are by them detained from their Mother 
and natural Guardian Mary Buie – and it is being the opinion of this court that the said children 
should be put into the care and custody of their mother agreeable to her desire.
