DESCENDANTS OF JOHN McIVER

The information on the first four generations of MacIvers, John, Kenneth, Duncan and Kenneth came from the book, Malcolm Kelly Family of Moore County, NC, Ancestry and Descendants by Douglas Floyd Kelly, June 17, 1978. In his book, written in 1964, McIver Family of North Carolina by Kenneth L. Kelly, Mr. Kelly begins his book with Kenneth MacIver.

Kenneth Kelly writes in his foreword, that "the descendants of Kenneth McIver, emigrated to North Carolina between the years 1772 and 1802 and settled principally in Chatham and Moore counties."

"Clan McIver is a very old name in the history of Scotland and is found in records as far back as the early 1100's. For many centuries, the McIvers lived in Argyllshire where they were keepers of the castle of Inverary and from which one branch migrated up into Rosshire and thence over to the Isle of Lewes."

"Families of the Ness or Gress branch emigrated from the Isle of Lewes to North Carolina and then to Tennessee, while others from Lewes and Skye settled in and around Chatham and Moore Counties. There are a number of gravestones in the churchyard of the old Union Presbyterian Church in Moore County that bear the name the Parish of Sleat of the Isle of Skye."
