FROM THE FAYETTEVILLE OBSERVER
THURSDAY, JUNE 6, 1893

We are pained to announce the death of Mr. John Starr Cook, on Friday afternoon last, at the residence
of his uncle Col. W.S. Cook. Mr. Cook was not quite 18 years old, and was a strong and robust looking
young man, and his death was a surprise to his many friends. He had been sick only a few days, but his
illness developed into brain fever, which carried him off.

He was a son of the late E.S. Cook, of Tyler Texas, and had been here since last October. During that
time he had won a large circle of friends by his gentlemanly bearing, genial disposition, and kindness
of heart. His widowed mother and brother arrived a few days before his death, and to them the loss is
particularly sad. They have the sympathies of many friends. The funeral services were held Sunday
afternoon from the residence, and interment was in the new cemetery.
