SARDIS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH CEMETERY, LINDEN, NC

The cemetery is not located beside the present church in Linden. 
To find the cemetery, go N on US 401 about 1/8 mile past the 
NC 217 turnoff to Linden. Or go S 1/4 mile from the Lower Little
River bridge on US 401.On the east side of US 401 is a dirt 
driveway between two stone pillars.  This winds back through
several fields and eventually comes out at the cemetary. 

On one of the large stone entrance pillars to the right of the 
cemetery gate appears the following:

                 Sardis Church

Sardis Church was organized May 5, 1816, the first building known
as Hodges' Meeting House, was located on the opposite side of 
the ravine, and nearer the river. The second building, probably 
erected in 1830, stood at the southwest corner of this cemetery, 
the stone of these pillars forming its foundation. In 1916 the 
third building was erected at Linden, NC. The following have
