Benjamin Otto Bateman
Aug. 12, 1911 -- March 19, 1989
According to Mr. Bateman's daughter, Gloria Roberts, he was born in Aydlett and moved to Poplar Branch Landing Road when he married Gladys Simpson. They lived there until their deaths. The photo was taken some time between 1925 and 1929 on Currituck Sound at either Poplar Branch or Neal's Creek. "These two docks were most accessible to him when he went out on the Sound," says Mrs. Roberts. "He went out from one as often as he went out from the other. My dad loved hunting and fishing off Poplar Branch Landing. He worked at the Landing for Norman Gregory's Fish House for many years." See Otto's obituary here.
