Isaac & Utility Ballance Boswood Album

Isaac & Utility Boswood

Utility "Tilt" Ballance (April 13, 1868 - March 8, 1930) was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Ballance and Amanda Parker.  Isaac Boswood (August 12, 1848 - May 21, 1934) was the son of Willoughby Boswood and Margaret.  Isaac and Utility were married November 9, 1882.  Both Utility and Isaac are buried in the Ballance-Boswood Cemetery in Maple, NC.  They had the following children: Lillie May  born Feb. 2, 1884, Ralph Vernon born Jan. 12, 1886, Sarah S. "Susan" born Nov. 26, 1887, Grandy Keval born Oct 21, 1890, Sudie born c. 1892, Flaura O. born Aug. 1893, and Amanda Eula born Feb. 9, 1906.


Utility Ballance Boswood

Sarah "Susan" Boswood Cowell

Susan S. Boswood was born Nov. 26, 1887 and died Dec. 2, 1970.  She married Marshall P. Cowell (1873-1953).  They are both buried in the Marshall P. Cowell Cemetery in Sligo.

Lillie Boswood Crisp Caton

Lillie Boswood was born Feb. 2, 1884 and died Jan. 2, 1974.  She was 1st married to Gaston L. Crisp (1860-1928) then 2nd to William Caton.  Lillie is buried in the Caton Cemetery in Currituck, NC.

Flaura Boswood Walker

Flaura Boswood was born to Isaac & Utility Boswood in August 1893.  She married Ward Nicholson Walker circa 1914 and they had at least 5 children.  Ward N. Walker was born June 1, 1890 and died Oct. 31, 1935.  When he signed his WWII Draft Registration card in 1917 he stated he had a wife and one child.  He had a slender build, brown eyes and black hair and was "physically unable to work" and a "very weak man", however, he was listed as a farmer in the 1930 Currituck Co. census.
