In 1879 he professed hope in Christ and joined the Baptist Church of Louisburg, NC. His examples were good, his life commendable. He bore his sickness with the fidelity of a Christian. His funeral was preached by Rev. R. I. Walden, D.D. at the residence of his brother, Mr. J. Perry, where he died. Dr. Walden selected for his text 1 Th. ss. 4th chapter, 14th to 18th verses. Miss Roberta E. Davis presided at the organ and the congregation san "Safe in the Arms of Jesus."
