The following cemeteries are located in Gates County. This list may not be exhaustive.


  • Bass Cemetery — On Catherine Rd.
  • Beamon Cemetery – On Acorn Hill Rd behind the Bunch Cemetery
  • Blanchard Cemetery – On Hwy 37
  • Bond Cemetery – On Hwy 37
  • Buckland Plantation Cemetery – on the Buckland Plantation five miles south of the Virginia line, in Gates County, NC (US 37 North:1/2 mile from the Buckland Elementary School.) North of the Mansion approximately 30 yards. No fence or walls.
  • Bunch Cemetery – On Acorn Rd
  • W.G. Bunch Cemetery – On Acorn Hill Rd at Joppa
  • Bunch-Hollowell Cemetery – in back of field across the street from 368 Spivey Rd (36° 19.954 N, 76° 35.405 W)
  • Carter Cemetery – On Carter Rd in a field not far from the road.
  • Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery – On Hwy 37
  • Cross Cemetery – On Hwy 32 near Sunbury before you get to the stop light at Hwy 158 and Hwy 32.
  • Eure Cemetery – On a farm on Taylor Mill Rd
  • Eure Baptist Church Cemetery – In Eure on the corner of High Rd.
  • Eure Christian Church Cemetery – On Hwy 137
  • Eureka Baptist Cemetery – In Corapeake on Hwy 32 near the NC/Va state line
  • Fanny Cemetery – On Tyler Rd, on the right if you are turning from US 13.
  • Gatesville Cemtery – On Court and High Streets
  • Gordon Cemetery – on the southwest corner of Hwy 32 and Thicket Road just north of Sunbury on what I believe was the Gordon property where their home , Woodlawn, stood. It was very overgrown and the last time I was there (about 5 years ago) a very large oak had fallen over inside the graveyard’s boundaries.
  • Hall Cemetery – North on Cotton Gin Road. (From highway 158). Go approximately 1.5 miles to Lang Lane. (Right on Lang Lane). Cemetery is located at the end of Lang Lane, behind a 2 story home.
  • Hall Family Cemetery – 190 Cotton Gin Road. When facing the home it is just to the left about 15 or 20 yards.
  • Harrell Cemetery – Beside Barfield Rd and NC 137 deep in the woods
  • Hobbs-Stallings Cemetery – just before Bank Rd. on Selvin Rd.
  • Hobbsville Baptist Church Cemetery – n Hobbsville on Hobbsville Rd
  • Hofler Cemetery – on Carter Rd.
  • Hollowell Cemetery – On the corner of Spivey Rd and Selwin Rd (36° 20.048 N, 76° 35.212 W)
  • Hollowell Cemetery – On Acorn Hill Rd
  • Hudgins Cemetery – United Methodist Church on Hwy 37 just before Zion Rd. 7 miles from Gatesville.
  • Jones Cemetery – On Hwy 32 in Corapeake
  • King Cemetery – On Joppa Rd.
  • Mitchell Cemetery – On Hwy 32 Virginia Rd just past the intersection on Hwy 37
  • Morgan Cemetery – On Hwy 158 in Sunbury
  • Morris Cemetery – On Millpond Rd near the State Park
  • Nixon Cemetery – On Carter Rd.
  • Oak Grove Christian Community – On Folly Rd.
  • Outland Cemetery – On Court St in Gatesville in a wooded area
  • Parker Cemetery – On Millpond Rd.
  • Parker Cemetery – On Hwy 37 just outside Gatesville
  • Parker Cemetery – In Sarem at junction of Gates County Rd 1217 and abandoned rail bed.
  • Parker-Hinton Cemetery – 1/10 mile north of Bond’s Landing Road, on Gates County Road #1103, approximately 300 feet West of road.
  • Parker-Johnson Cemetery – On Hwy 37 just outside Gatesville, just before Peach Orchard Rd.
  • Parks Cemetery – Catherine Creek Rd.
  • Pierce Cemetery – Catherine Rd
  • Piland Cemetery – Off of highway 37, three quarters of a mile south from Buckland School, then approximately three quarters of a mile west on southwest of corner cleared field (shelterbelt to left) approximately 30 feet into the wooded area in the southwest corner under an old oak tree, just before coming to the Hackley swamp. It is behind Gussie (Piland) Gary home.
  • Rawls Cemetery – On Hwy 37
  • Riddick Cemetery – On Sandy Cross Rd
  • Riddick Cemetery – between Sandy Cross Church and Trotville..7 miles north of Acorn Hill Road.
  • Riddick Cemetery – On a farm on Folly Rd
  • Roberts Cemetery – On Carter Rd
  • Rountree Cemetery – Catherine Creek Rd
  • Sandy Cross Church Memorial Garden Cemetery – across the road from the Sandy Cross Baptist Church between the intersections of Acorn Hill Road and Joppa Road. All stones are flat on the ground. The entrance has a brick formation on each side with name of cemetery on it.
  • Old Sandy Cross Church Cemetery – between Acorn Hill Road and Joppa Road, heading southeast, about ¼ mile before the Sandy Cross Baptist Church, same side of the road as Church
  • Savage Cemetery – Behind Caleb Savage Plantation on Union Branch Rd just past Wiggins Cross Rd. at intersection of Union Branch and Middle Swamp Rd.
  • Small Cemetery – On Folly Rd
  • Smith Cemetery – on the Buckland Plantation five miles south of the Virginia line, in Gates County, NC (US 37 North:1/2 mile from the Buckland Elementary School.) North of the Mansion approximately 30 yards. No fence or walls.
  • Isaac Waters Smith Cemetery – between Gatesville and Sunbury, NC on Highway 158 on the north side of the road (on the left if you travel from Gatesville to Sunbury). The farmhouse, and an original barn are still standing. I do not have an address, however the property is between Eason’s Crossroads and Clay Hill Lane.
  • Spivey Cemetery – in field beside Horace Stallings Ln. (36° 20.209 N, 76° 36.938 W)
  • Stallings Family Cemetery – approximately four miles south on Acorn Hill Road between the intersections of Route 158 and Sandy Cross Road. Heading south, cemetery is in a small fenced area on left side of road set back off the road behind property where the old Rhodolpha Stallings home was before it was torn down years ago.
  • Stallings Cemetery – On Joppa Rd
  • Story Cemetery – at the end of 137 where NC 13 begins
  • Trotman Cemetery – On Sandy Cross Rd
  • Turner Cemetery – On US 158 outside of Gatesville on the O C Turner Estate
  • Walton Cemetery – On Rountree Rd
  • White Cemetery – On Punch Bowl Rd in a field behind the old home place.
  • Wiggins Cemetery – On Carter Rd just beyond the intersection of Punch Bowl Rd on the James M. Wiggins Estate
  • Williams Cemetery – On Horace Carter Rd
  • Winslow Cemetery – On Hwy 32 S near the intersection of Carters Rd and Hobbsville Rd (36° 20.250 N, 76° 38.079 W)
  • Winslow Cemetery – off Carter Rd down a lane, it is not far from Catherine Rd after you pass Catherin Rd coming from 32 you round a sharp curve ahead you will see a lane before the net sharp curve. Cemetery is about 200 feet off Carter Rd down the lane, it is grown up in a wooded area.
  • Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery – On Hwy 37 next to Zion Rd 7 miles from Gatesville
