Interested in sharing information on the LANG and ROGERS family of Chowan, Hertford, Gates, and Edgecombe Counties. Both families were probably from IOW, Va. John LANG md Elizabeth ROGERS and moved to Pitt Co c 1795. Elizabeth's parents were Robert and Priscilla ROGERS. Who were Priscilla's parents? John LANG's parents were James and Jemima LANG - who were Jemima's parents? In addition, who was Tristim ROGERS of Edgecombe Co and how did he tie into this ROGERS family? John Lang's 2nd wife was Elizabeth MAY Rogers widow of Stephen ROGERS who was the son of Tristiam and Judith. John and Elizabeth Rogers Lang's son married Stephen and Elizabeth MAY's daughter.

Also looking for information on Rachel Cullins HOBBS, who first married William HOBBS and married second Aaron HOBBS (cousin of William HOBBS). This family left Gates Co., N.C. in about 1820. They traveled to Georgia, first Jones Co. and later settled in Stewart Co.,GA. This HOBBS family traces its roots from Abraham, Thomas, John, and Aaron HOBBS, all residents of Gates Co., NC near the present town of Hobbsville. Any information would be appreciated.

Her son, Elisha Boon PARKER married Rosetta COPELAND in Nansemond Co. Va in 1883. Elisha was born c. 1859, Mary Ann BOON was born c. 1831, and Mills PARKER was born c. 1830. They were living in Reynoldson Twp. This family was afroamerican. Any info on this family would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for information on James Atlas RICE who married Mary Adaline EASON in 1849. James posted marriage bond in Gates Co on 16 March 1849 (bond #000052011; record # 041-01-151; bondsman William R. Br.; witness N. J. Riddick). I have census record of James and Mary living in Newton Co, GA in 1850 (It list birthplace for James as NC). Only RICE living in Gates Co is a Thomas RICE in 1840 census. Question: 1) Looking for possible link between James and Thomas, and any other information from marriage bond; 2) Possible relationship of Mary to other EASON's in Gates Co. Have Mary's family living in Newton Co, GA (father Abraham) from before 1840 until moving to Alabama in mid 1850's.

I am researching my husband's family names which are Joanna COPELAND, Elisha Boon PARKER, Maryann BOON, Mills PARKER, and Rosetta COPELAND. Joanna b. 1845 was the mother of Rosetta b.1863. I have them living in Nansemond Co., VA in 1870. Rosetta married Elisha Boon PARKER in 1883. Their marriage certificate showed Elisha living in Gates Co, Reynoldson Twp. Maryann BOON was Elisha's mother and 2nd wife to Mills PARKER. They were all living in Gates Co in 1880. The birth date of Maryann was 1831 and Mills in 1830. Maryann's other children were John A. b. 1853, Caroline b. 1857, Alice b. 1866, Rocius b. 1862, Mary A. born 1873, Willey b. 1878, and "baby" b. 1880. Probably some of the children are Maryann's grandchildren. I would greatly appreciate any info on this family. I live in the San Francisco Bay area and it is difficult getting info from the east coast. Also, the COPELANDs were listed as Mulatto and the PARKERs and BOONs as black. Thanks again. Linda

Stephen HARRELL was found in 1786 and 1790 State Census Gates Co NC. Wife Zelpha. A Stephen was found in Chowan Co NC lost tax lists 1784-1799 (probably same Stephen). He sold property in Gates and moved to Edgecomb by 1800. Only known child is Bray HARRELL but Benjamin did have other children. Need help on this family, his wife Zelpha's maiden name and her parents.

Know he had at least one son, Steven and granddaughter, Margaret. Another son, Levi LEE, Jr. b. 3 February 1791 moved to Putnam Co., GA where he married Matilda DENNIS in 1820 and on Talbot Co., GA. I am looking for my ggrandfather Hezekiah Carr JACKSON. He was born in Pasquotank Co. in 1850 and was in the 1880 census for Perquimans Co. I don't know if he ever lived in Gates Co. but thought I would give it a try since these countys are close together. Hezekiah was married to Mary BRINKLEY (aka Aldora, Dora) They had 7 or 8 children and lived with the first 4 in Perquimans Co. according to the l880 census. I have not been able to find this family anywhere else. Does anyone have anything on this family? I could also us information on Mary BRINKLEY. I have no information on her. Hezekiah died when the last children were young. I figured that he died somewhere between 1889 & 1895. I do not have anything on where he died or how. According to family members he is buried in an unknown church cemetary in or around Elizabeth City, N.C. Thanks for any information anyone can give me.

My name is Karen Diane King and I am doing research on the above families. They resided in Gates and nearby Pasquotank families since the 1700s. My links are Thomas RELF (RELPH) b. 1847 in Holly Grove District of Gates County and his wife Susan HARE b. 1858 in the Holly Grove District of the same county. They married in 1878 and had eight children. Their children were Curtis, George T., Charles, Norman, Zena, Arthur, Virginia, and Norman. Thomas had an additional child named Rufus who married a woman named Rebecca in 1897. The family later resided in the Haslett District of Gates Co. Any information on these families is deeply appreciated.

I am looking for the location of the farm of my Gr-grandfather, Edward Bascom HARRELL and his wife Leonora Hayes HARRELL. The farm was 93 acres and was purchased in May of 1883 from Elisha and Sara CROSS. The description of the land states that it was bordered by the land of H. Clay CROSS, Noah B. FELTON, and Geo. W. KITRELL. A canal also bordered the farm. I believe that the farm was in the vicinity of the original Kitrell's Methodist Church. I have found the baptismal records of the children of Bascom and Nora in the Kitrell record books in the Duke Library. I believe that this area is now called Wileyton in Gates Co.. I believe that this farm is the birthplace of my grandfather, Henry William HARRELL and I would like to find its location.

James BRADY (BRADDY) died in Chowan County in 1750. I have a copy of his original will. Do any cemetery records exist which might list his burial location? His son, also a James, died in 1794 and I have a copy of his will. He was a member of the St. Paul's Parish Church of England. Vestry records indicate that a chapel may have been built on his land. Does this chapel still exist? Are there any burial records for the church?

Am looking for any information on Nathaniel M. GILLIAM and Sarah (Sallie) DAVIS. Nathaniel GILLIAM entered the service at Gates County Courthouse for the War of 1812. He served at Norfolk, Va. with the Halifax Militia, with 120 travel miles. He later moved to east Tn. and married Sarah DAVIS, b. 1802 in N.C. Need any information on his parents or siblings. Am looking for more information on Henry GOODMAN whose will was probated in Gates Co.(1778 or 1783) He had two sons, William (who was killed at Eutaw Springs during the Revolution) and John. His daughters included: Mary who married a KING, Elizabeth who married a KITTRELL, Charity who married a HOLLAND, and Sarah who married William BETHEA. Additional information would be appreciated.

We are looking for info on Moses P. MYRICK,b.1822 no d. date. He was married to Lucrieta BRACK( called Creasy?) b.1825, they were married April 16, 1844. They were listed on my great grandfathers marriage records as being from Warren, County, NC. My great grandfather was married to Martha J. GREEN . Both also listed as from Warren County. We have found the burial site of great grand in Suffolk, VA. We have not been able to find any thing else about g.g. gpts. Our family that still lives had always been told that our family had moved from Gates County. Since our search in Warren has'nt been fruitful so far, I turn to you and any others in Gates County for help. I would appreciate any light you may bring to us as this is for our familys personal satisfaction. The older ones have long been gone and we are of middle age. Harrison JENKINS (also known as W. H. H. Jenkins/Jinkins) married Nancy SMITH in 1850 in Gates County, NC. He was born about 1821; she was born about 1828. That 1850 census in NC states that they were born in VA. They have 2 kids that I can find: one is Joseph W. JENKINS born ca 1859 and Laura born ca 1862. Laura was found in 1870 census in an orphanage in Norfolk, VA. Also, found a Nancy JENKINS (domestic servant and stated that her mother was "foreign born".) with Joseph at the Tazewell Taylor house. Joseph's obit in 1926 stated that he was survived by a sister, Mrs. Laura MURRAY of Norfolk, VA. A John W. JENKINS was a pallbearer. Joseph married Sarah Elizabeth DAVIS in Mathews Co. in 1885. I am looking for the parents of Harrison (W.H.H. JENKINS); the parents of Nancy SMITH; their siblings,etc.. Also, looking for John W. JENKINS, wife, children, his parents, etc.; also, Mrs. Laura MURRAY and descendants.

Hi! I am trying to establish a family tree for my children. My husband's paternal great grandmother was Senia EASON. She married Simeon SWAIN May 19, 1856 in Gates County. I think Senia might have been a nickname as the I found the family listed 1870 Perquimes census and she was listed as Escreath. At that time, she was 33 years old. I would like to know who her parents were, when and where she was born, when she died, and where she is buried. If available, I would also like to know when and where Simeon SWAIN was born, when he died, and where he is buried. Any information you can provide will really be appreciated.
