The declaration of JAMES OLIVER a foreigner & native of Ireland of his intention to become a naturalized citizen of the United States
Tothe Worshipful, the Justices of the County Court of Halifax
JAMES OLIVER showeth unto your Worships that he is anxious to become a Citizen of the United States, that he was born in Ireland in the year 1815, that he came to Lower Canada in 1832 & from there to the State of New York in the Fall of 1833 where he resided as a servant for the State of two years. From New York he came to this State and served up to the present time resided within it's limits at Weldon working in Rock quarries. Ever since he left Ireland it has been his intention to come to the United States and live during the remainder of his life & to qualify himself to hold & enjoy the privilledges of the natural born citizen of said States & he does now file this as his declaration in pursuance of the several acts of Congress on this subject. This declaration doth hereby expressly renounce al allegiance & fidelty of situations(?) all nature & King to every power sovereign, Empire, King potentate & ruler other than the United States of America & doth particularly doth he renounce all fidelity & allegiance to the King of Great Britain & Ireland. This declaration saith that he was born in 24 July 1815, and he maketh oath that the facts and citations set forth in the foregoing declaration are true & that he doth feel the same in good faith & fidelity.
