(Gideon Richardson, b. abt. 1817, was the son of Jesse & Crecy Richardson; he was married twice, 1st to Betsy, 2nd to Lucy Richardson, who died 3 months after him)

 


Halifax County, Probate Court 1880
In the name of God, Amen, I GIDEON RICHARDSON in the County of Halifax and State of North Carolina being weak of body and of ???? mind, memory and understanding Praise be to God for the same do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following:

 

1st I give and bequeath to my beloved wife LUCIE RICHARDSON all of my real estate for her sole benefit after my death during her natural life and widowhood it being the same tract or parcel of land on which I now reside containing two hundred and fifty acres more or less, and at her (LUCIE) death the same land shall be equally divided between my two sons ASA & JESSE RICHARDSON each share to be allotted as follows: ASA's portion on the west of the tract, containing one hundred & twenty five acres and JESSE's portion on the Eastern portion of the tract containing one hundred & twenty five acres during his natural life then the title to said JESSE put[?] in Real Estate to invest to his son LEANDE DORSON RICHARDSON forever.
2nd That my Executors herein after named shall provide for my body a decent burial & pay all funeral expenses together with my just debts to first be paid out of my personal property.
3rd I give and bequeath to my sons ABNER, LEVI and THOMAS RICHARDSON, one dollar each to be paid from the proceeds of my personal property.
4th I give and bequeath to my daughters LOUISA, LUCRETIA, and REBECCA LOCUS one dollar each for said daughters LUCRETIA & REBECCA & LOUISA.
5th I give & bequeath to my said beloved wife LUCIE all of my household & kitchen furniture domestic foods and the crops of every description made on the plantation.
6th And at the death of my wife all property donated her shall invert to my sons ASA and JESSE

7th I give & bequeath to my son JESSE a certain parcel of hogs ranging at the house and to my son ASA a certain parcel of <word missing> longing[?] on the west side of plantation.
8th And all other articles (not enumerated in my will) of property shall be equally divided between my two sons ASA & JESSE.
9th And I do nominate, constitute and appoint my sons ASA and JESSE RICHARDSON my executors of this my last will and testament & declare this to be my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I the said GIDEON RICHARDSON SR. have hereunto set my hand this the the 15th day Jany 1880, In the presence of these witnesses

State of North Carolina, in the Probate Court
Halifax County, 31st January 1880
 

A paper writing purporting to be the last will and testament of GIDEON RICHARDSON deceased is exhibited for probate in Open Court by ASA RICHARDSON and JESSE RICHARDSON the Executors therein named and the due execution thereof by the said GIDEON RICHARDSON is proved by the oath and examination of THOMAS GREEN and JONES RICHARDSON two of the subscribing witnesses thereto. It is therefore considered by the Court that the said paper writing and <illegible> past thereof is the last will and testament of the said GIDEON RICHARDSON, and it is adjudged that the same is sufficient to pass both real and personal property and the same is ordered to be recorded and filed. And therefore the said ASA RICHARDSON and JESSE RICHARDSON Executors as aforesaid duly qualifies as such by taking and subscribing the oath required by law,

#389- (401) 31 Jan 1880 ASA and JESSE RICHARDSON testified that GIDEON RICHARDSON died with will. Estate valued at $600. Heirs: LUCIE RICHARDSON the widow; sd ASA and JESSE RICHARDSON; ABNER RICHARDSON, LEVI RICHARDSON, THOMAS RICHARDSON, LOUISA LUCAS, LUCRETIA LUCAS,REBECCA LUCAS. ASA RICHARDSON, JESSE RICHARDSON. Appointed.
