In the Name of God Amen. I SAMUEL THORNE of Halifax County & State of North Carolina being under great affliction of body, but possessing sound mind and memory, and knowing uncertainty of life and certainty of death, have made this instrument of writing my last will and testament. As to my body I wish it decently buried at the discretion of my family and friends, my soul I recommend to my God who gave it me; in hope of a lively and Happy resurrection at the day of Judgment; As to my property which the Lord has blessed me with, I will and dispose of it in the following manner viz, That my Executor hereafter named I will; shall pay all my just debts out of my Estate.
2nd.   I will and bequeath to my dearly beloved grand children BENJAMIN T. BALLARD & WM. H. BALLARD children of my beloved daughter ELIZA J. BALLARD all the property I have heretofore put my said daughter in possession of to share and share alike.
3rd.   I will and bequeath unto my beloved son WILLIAM W. THORNE all the property that I have heretofore put him in possession of, together with all that tract of land situated and lying on both sides of the Sleek stone Branch, which land I purchased of COLO. LEM'L J. ALSTON subsequent to the division of the Estate of JAMES C. WILLIAMS dec'd and conveyed to me by the late JOS. JNO. WILLIAMS Sen'r decd in whom was the right to convey a title.
4th.   I will and bequeath unto my dearly beloved son WILLIAM W. THORNE, all of Negro Slaves (Thirty five in number) with their present and their future increase, together with all of my property goods or effects of every description or sort whatever that I haven't herein above heretofore given or conveyed away. And
Lastly. I nominate constitute and appoint my dearly beloved son WILLIAM W. THORNE my sole and only Executor to this my last will & testament and wish my said son not to be at the trouble of retaining an Inventory as he is the principal or only one interested.
In Testimony whereof I SAMUEL THORNE hereby revoking and disannull all other wills heretofore made by me have hereunto set my hand and seal the 17th day of July Anno Domini 1835.

In the Name of God Amen, I WILLIAM W. THORN of Halifax County State of North Carolina being sick in my body but having my sound mind & memory do hereby make and Establish this paper writing my last will & testament viz
I wish the whole of my Estate to be kept together and my beloved wife and children to be together as they now do, and all my children to have Liberal Educations & to be supported from my Estate so long as they all remain together.
I give in fee simple unto my beloved wife the tract of land purchased from HARWELLs estate whereon I now live. I also give unto my beloved wife an equal or child's share of the whole of my estate (lands excepted) in taking her share of Negroes to have her choice at valuation.
I hereby nominate and appoint my worthy friend EDWARD ALSTON whole and sole Executor and also hereby appoint him guardian to all my children, and the whole of my estate, I hereby leave under the care & management of said EDWARD (my executor and guardian to all my children) and hereby give him power & authority to sell the parts or portions of my property as he may think will be a benefit to the Estate as well to purchase what he may desire necessary for the Estate, having entire confidence in my Executor that he will manage my Estate as he would his own, don't wish and into for him to be confined strictly to the law as it may enable him to manage my Estate in such way as he may think best.
I give and bequeath to each one of my children as well as to any or that child or children I may have born after this, a child's share or an equal portion of the whole of my Estate as soon as it arrives at lawful age or marries, that share or portion to be given from the Estate by my Executor EDWARD ALSTON & him to call in to his aid my friend ALFRED ALSTON & my brother in law ARCHIBALD DAVIS and the portion or childs share that they lay off for it shall be satisfactory, in care either ALFRED ALSTON or ARCH'D DAVIS or both should die in that case my Executor shall make choice of other persons to supply their places and my Executor & other two persons as mentioned also to value the Negroes of my wife shares. I testimony whereof I WILLIAM W. THORNE have hereunto my hand and seal to this my last will & testament.

One Eleventh part of fifty shares of Eltreck Cotton Factory, Petersburg
One fourth part or share of crop, stock, furniture &c in the hands of EDWARD ALSTON the Executor of W. W. THORNE Dec'd which will be accounted for and returned hereafter or as soon as division is approved.
This amount fifty six dollars & twenty five cents due by me as adm. being amt over and above said T. W. THORNE's share or portion of in the allotment or division of Negroes.
The above is a true and faithful return of all the property belonging to the Estate above mentioned.
