Corneilus Jarvis was born in 1794 in Hyde County, North Carolina. He went to White Co., Tennessee in 1819 and came to Washington Co., Missouri in 1842. He was listed as a miner in the 1850 Washington Co., MO census and a farmer in the 1880 census where his age was given as 84. He is buried in Marler Chapel Cemetery on C. Hwy. but doesn't have a headstone in the cemetery. Most Jarvis and Mason families in the area of Belgrade, Missouri descend from him.

Corneilus Jarvis and wife Mahala had following children :

• Sarah who married John Fountain Wright
• Priscilla who married John Fountain Wright in Harmony Twp., Washington Co., MO on June 19, 1853 after her sister Sarah had died
• Elizabeth who married Azariah Yount
• Sylvester who first married Agness Emalie Mason then 2nd Minerva Cash in Washington Co., MO on Aug. 27, 1857
• Louisa Jane who married Edward Payne Sr.
• Foster Marion who married Pamela Jane Yount

Corneilus was married secondly to Margaret Ramsey and had the following child:

• Marhina "Rhiney" who married Wm. Pitt Johnston
