Edward Tilson Harris was born July 15, 1881 in Bath, North Carolina and died Jan 5, 1948. He was the son of Gilbert G. Harris and Mary Ann Veal Credle. Emma Caroline Jarvis was born May 19, 1879 in Rose Bay, North Carolina and died Oct. 17, 1981. She was the daughter of Tilman Ferdinand Jarvis, Sr. and Mary Ann Holliday. Edward and Emma were married Dec. 22, 1900 and are both buried in Yeatesville, North Carolina. After having seen coffins floating in the flood of 1918, he wanted to be buried on high ground and picked the cemetery in Beaufort County for his final resting place. They are pictured here on one of the boats which he owned during his life as he made his living from the sea. They raised a family of 7 children (Nydia Emma, Ellis Edward, Addie Margie, Ebbie Mason, Mary Elizabeth, Elbert Milburn and Edith Holliday), losing one (Ebbie) to typhoid fever before leaving Swan Quarter in 1918 for Norfolk.
