Thomas W. Mayhew was commissioned September 9, 1861 in Hyde County in Company F, 33rd Regiment. He was promoted to Major on August 5, 1862 and died of wounds received at Chancellorsville, Virginia on May 3, 1863. He was married to Adelaide Watson, daughter of William Watson and Sarah "Sally" Weston, in 1859. Thomas and Adelade Mahew lived in the home of William & Sally Watson when the 1860 census was taken at Lake Comfort, Hyde County, North Carolina.
