DANIELS / GOODWIN / SWINDLE

Sherri Sontag Feb. 5, 2006

I believe my ancestor is related to the line of Jacob and Anna GOODWIN. Her name was Martha " Patsy" DANIELS and she was born ca. 1761 and married Job SWINDLE in Craven Co, NC Aug. 22, 1795. They resided in Hyde Co, NC after they married very near I assume her brothers, Joab, Randolph and Thomas DANIELS. I am looking for a copy of the Will of Jacob DANIELS or any other info to confirm Martha is the daughter of Jacob & Anna DANIELS. I would appreciate learning of anywhere I might go to for more information.

DAILEY / GASKINS / JACKSON / O'NEAL

Ron Dailey October 12, 1997

DAILEYS of Ocracoke Island. My great-grandfather was Thomas H. DAILEY. He is in the 1870 and 1880 Hyde Co. censuses. His mother is listed as Sarah JACKSON. She must have remarried after her husband died. I don't know his name. Thomas H. DAILEY was born in 1832 in NC. His wife was Nancy GASKINS daughter if Elijah Wise GASKINS and his wife Annie. She was born 12 Mar 1833 in Ocracoke and died 28 Dec 1915 in Ocracoke. She is buried in the Dailey Cemetery at Ocracoke (which is all overgrown or washed away). My grandfather was Captain Thomas Franklin Dailey born at Ocracoke in 1873. He had a sister, Margery Anna Dailey, who married John Wallace O'Neal (they are both buried at Ocracoke - as well as my great-grandparents). Unfortunately, my grandfather drowned in 1913 in Durhams Creek near Little Washington. I will appreciate any help or directions to start looking. Thanks! - Ron Dailey (Stafford, VA)

DANIELS / LANIER

Olive Thornton March 15, 1999

Bible record shows Clement DANIELS born November 13,1790 Hyde County, son of Thomas and Rhoda (Rody/Roda) DANIELS. Have been trying to determine if this Thomas could be in family that married Elizabeth LANIER in Tyrrell County or maybe connected to DANIELS family Roanoke Island, or both. Can find many references to Thomas, but need one married to Rhoda. Thomas in Hyde census 1810, but only Rhoda listed in 1820. Any help will be much appreciated.

DAVIS (also SERMONS / HUDSON / RICKS / PILLEY & ELLIS)

Anne Holland April 27, 1999

I need information on George Washington DAVIS (1831 - 1896?) and his wife or wives Sallie (Sarah) K. SERMONS (?), and Sabra HUDSON. He may have been born in Davis Straits in Carteret County but lived some of his adult life (1880 census) in the Lake Landing area of Hyde County. His son, George David DAVIS married Julia Elizabeth RICKS and they lived in Pantego. His death certificate lists Sabra HUDSON as his mother. Two daughters, Sarah Darcas and Senoria Zudie (who married William PILLEY) list their mother as Sallie K. SERMONS on their death certificates. I know George W. DAVIS had at least one brother, Greene C. DAVIS (1822 - ?) who married Elizabeth ELLIS in 1850 in Carteret County but was in Beaufort County in 1860, 1870 & 1880. Thanks for any info.

DAVIS / SAWYER

Kim Sadler December 11, 2005

Need some major help folks. I am looking for anyone with information on a Canellus or Cornellum? DAVIS and Henrietta DAVIS. The Hyde County Census records from 1870 spell the Canellus and the 1880 Census records spell it Cornellum. However their children were John DAVIS b. approx 1863, Thaddues DAVIS b.1868. They were from the Currituck District of Hyde County. My real question is in the 1880 Census, they have a nephew living with them Macon B. SAWYER. Okay folks which side did he come in on Canellus side, possibly a sister that married a SAWYER or Henrietta's side - was she a SAWYER or did she have a sister that married a SAWYER. Macon Bonner SAWYER was 20 years old. Appreciate everyones help.

DONALD / SHELDON

Chairwoman June 20, 2003

I would like to have any information about the Judge DONALD plantation because this place is mentioned in the civil war pension records of a brother of my GG-Grandmother.   His name was Donald SHELDON & another relative named Gatsey DONALD.  It mentioned many times about a family Bible that Judge DONALD kept information about the slaves he owned.  I am trying to locate info on Mary SHELDON who was Gatsey DONALD's half-sister. Mary SHELDON had two sons, Andrew & Ernest SHELDON.  Andrew was my GG-Grandfather. I am trying to locate Mary, Andrew and Ernest SHELDON and other family members during the 1870's.  I don't see them listed anywhere during this time period and I can not find any of the people that I have mentioned on the 1870 census records, not until the 1880 Census. I am trying to find out where they were during this time period. Thanks for any information that you might provide.

FARROW / GASKIN / JONES / SWINDLE / BROOKS

Jeannette Hopkins February 18, 2001

I am looking for information on Hezekiah FARROW, his parents, date of coming to NC and his wife and her family. He married Theresa Bertie (GASKIN?) JONES who probably was born in VA in 1838. It was said that she descended from a first family of VA. He was born maybe in 1812, Hyde Co., probably died Sept.29-30, 1851 but a North State Whig obit said he died at 45, which would have made his birth in 1806. Some of same name had a father Jeremiah (Eliz. SWINDLE), whose father was John (Sara BROOKS), b.1740. Any clue if this is my family's ancestor? He was a naval architect, possibly in Washington, N.C. David H. FARROW inherited Hezekiah's property. Their daughter Anna Bertie GASKIN JOMES married David PATON of Edinburgh, architect and builder of the state capitol building in Raleigh (still in use). Thanks for any help you can give.

FLETCHER / PUGH / CUTHRELL / JARVIS

Florine Fletcher August 24, 2002

Does anyone have any information on Christopher FLETCHER that married Mary PUGH? / Mary CUTHRELL?  On Mary FLETCHER and Noah FRANCES' marriage certificate, Mary's mother is listed as Mary PUGH but on her death certificate her mother is listed as Mary CUTHRELL. There was a Mary PUGH living with a Benjamin O'NEAL in the 1850 census of Hyde County. When I went to the Archives Christopher FLETCHER's papers were listed under Benjamin O'NEAL. This made me think this was the Mary PUGH. Mary Mollie FRANCIS died in 1933 in Belhaven. I was hoping some of the PUGH's or some of the CUTHRELL's would know more. Christopher married a Mrs. Susan JARVIS in 1862. Mary FLETCHER was born in May 1859. I was looking to see if there was more children from either marriage. Thanks for any and all help anyone can give.

FLOWERS

Peggy Scott January 2, 1999

I am trying to research my mother's family. I know very little as everyone has passed on. My grandparents came from Pamlico County. My grandfather's name was George Brown FLOWERS. His father I believe was Zion FLOWERS. I have found a Zion B. FLOWERS listed as filing for a pension for Hyde County for 1885-1901. I have requested North Carolina State Archives to send me the information. As you can see, I'm not to sure of what I'm doing. I'm not even sure what would be the best possible avenue to take. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. My home address is 2833 Wesley Road, Chesapeake, VA 23323. Thank you for all your help!

FLOWERS

Larry Flowers January 15, 1999

Looking for information on the FLOWERS family that lived in Currituck County beginning with John FLOWERS listed in the 1790 Census and his apparent relatives listed through the 1830 Census. I'm trying to determine if my ggggf Christopher C. FLOWERS, b. 1774, father of Zion FLOWERS, b.c. 1798 who supposedly came to the US from Ireland is related to the FLOWERS clan in Currituck County. I can tie my Christopher C. FLOWERS and his subsequent four generations down to South Creek, NC, as the homestead remains in the ownership of a second cousin to this day. The cousin, however, has no leads to help me determine if the FLOWERS in Beaufort or Hyde County are of the same branch as those in Currituck County. Any leads or suggestions would be highly appreciated. A thumbnail sketch of my lineage follows:
Christopher C. FLOWERS, b. 1774 (Possibly Ireland), d.c. 1850;
Zion FLOWERS, b. 1798 (Also possibly Ireland), d. Unkown;
Tillman F. FLOWERS, b. 1830, d. Unkown;
Malachi R. FLOWERS, of South Creek, NC, b. 21 Oct 1856, d. 15 Nov 1920;
Charles McDonald FLOWERS, of South Creek, NC, b. 20 Feb 1888, d. 3 Apr 1939;
Luther W. FLOWERS, of Wichita, KS, b. 21 Nov 21 1916, d. 23 Jan 1972.
Any help, lead, contacts on the line from Currituck of my line will be highly appreciated.

FOREMAN / LUPTON / McGOWAN / SPAIN / HARDY

Gayle Hardy Franks November 22, 2000

I would like to communicate with descendents of John Wright LUPTON and James Knox Polk LUPTON and their FOREMAN wives concerning the wives' brother James Patrick FOREMAN. I am the great-granddaughter of James Patrick FOREMAN and also a great-great-great grandaughter of Sarah "Sally" LUPTON and David SPAIN. James P. FOREMAN apparently died between 1880 and 1884 and his 2nd wife, Sarah W. (McGOWAN) FOREMAN, died in 1887. She is buried in Pamlico Co. at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. She moved to that area to live with relatives after her husband's death. My grandmother, Elizabeth Frances (FOREMAN) HARDY, was born in 1877 and was a small child when her father died. She remembered very little about him. I believe the family was still living in the Currituck Township of Hyde Co. when he died as they are listed there in the 1880 census. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I believe there is a carving of the Last Supper that he carved at the Methodist Church there. If anyone has information on his or his family that might still be there, please let me know. He was married to Fannie Wahab BALLANCE, also born in 1878 on Ocracoke.
