Dec. 23, 1873 - Hyde Co., NC, Probate Court, before Samuel R. Sadler, Probate Judge. -  Samuel L. Snell, Administrator of estate of Jas. R. Silverthorn with heirs listed as C. J. Silverthorn, S. D. Silverthorn, heirs of Jane Bell, Laura Lupton, Warren Silverthorn, Thos. Silverthorn and Sallie Silverthorn (siblings of James R. Silverthorn).  Admr. Samuel L. Snell given license to sell personal property of said intestate for cash.

Jan. 15, 1874 - Estate sale of $536.08, [itemized list from the sale too numerous to list here];  Mrs. Silverthorn bought one bed $9 & one lot crockery $0.50; other buyers listed – S. D. Silverthorn, Clint Howard, Sr & Jr., D. P. Daniels. N. Roberts, P. R. Selby, W. G. Ruffin, W. H. Fortiscue, Henry Sears. Warren Silverthorn, P. T. B. Hoover, H. W. Wahab, John Berry, Mat Bell, Walter Jarvis, G. Hamilton, Thomas Jarvis, H. Farrow, Wm. Coval, Thomas Hooten, Frank Snell, G. Dixon, Sam’l Spencer, R. W. Holowell, A. J. Smith, Etmore Grey, Wm Credle, Saml Barrow, M. Makley, J. C. Owens.

Complaint - S. L. Snell, Admr, for J. R. Silverthorn vs. Heirs at Law of J. R. Silverthorn - debts due from deceased are about $2,000 plus administration charges of $100; personal estates estimated to be worth $775.  At time of James Silverthorn's death two tracts of land situated in Hyde Co was seized and possessed in fee simple, one about 45 acres and one-fifth interest, subject to widow’s dower, in Jordan Silverthorn land about 45 acres valued about $20 per acre and that upon his death these lands descended to his heirs.  Tracts of land, except for widow’s dower, may be sold, one fourth for cash, the balance on one, two and three years time and proceeds used to pay off debts and charges of administration.

Aug. 28, 1875 - Order of Sale - Samuel L. Snell, Admr., given license to sell real estate of Jas. R. Silverthorn to settle estate.

Nov. 2, 1875 - Order of Confirmation - lands sold for fair price, $813

Nov. 10, 1883 - Final Acct Record of Settlement

NOTE:  James (b. 2 Jan 1833, d. 11 Jan 1873), son of Jordan Silverthorn & Jane Matilda Peartree, husband of Comfort Sadler, had a daughter Caroline Silverthorn, b. Apr 1853, d. Dec 1928)
