Transcriber’s Notes

These pages are an estate sales list and not a tax return but may have been filed with those documents because of a reference within to “tax due thereon.” This is a report of two sales, one in 1819 and a second one in January 1820, of goods belonging to Daniel Gregory. Gregory apparently was a merchandiser, either a peddler or shop keeper.

The list is an interesting account of goods. The term “juy comb” may refer to a musical instrument known as a jew’s harp or juice harp from which the harmonica derived. The term jew’s harp is not derogatory.
