OAK LEVEL RURITAN CLUB ORGANIZED

“The newly-organized Oak Level Ruritan Club received the charter and installed officers at a supper meeting held at Buck Overton’s [Barbecue] in Rocky Mount on Monday night.
Marvin Sasser of Rocky Mount, governor of the Rocky Mount-Durham Ruritan District, presided at the meeting. Morris Currin of Durham, a director of Rurita National, presented the new club its charter and Ben Robinson of Rocky Mount, a past district governor, installed the new officers.
Dan Bone was named as the first president of the new club. Other officers are Thurman Thompson, Vice President; Jimmy Lewis, Secretary; and Pete Pridgen, Treasurer. Directors elected were Charlie Vandiford, Jimmy Dozier and Charles Bell.
The new club was sponsored by West Mount Ruritans. Gold Joyner, president of the West Mount Club, spoke at Monday night’s meeting on “What is Ruritan?” and Aaron Joyner, Vice President, discussed “How Ruritan Clubs Operate.”
Buck Overton, Jr., President of the Benvenue Club and first lieutenant governor of Zones 3 and 4 of the Rocky Mount – Durham District, welcomed the new Organization. The Oak Level club is the 36th club to be organized in the district.
At the organizational meeting, the club voted to hold its monthly meetings on the fourth Monday night in each month.
