MRS. BESSIE BARBEE
Mrs. Bessie Leigh Barbee, 83, died Friday at 4:45 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sarah Watson, 2610 Ashe St. She had been seriously ill for the past two weeks and in declining health for two years.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Victoria Grant of Martinsville, Va., Mrs. Euva Peterson of Durham and Mrs. Sarah Watson of the home; three sons, W. Millard Barbee of Durham and Ira Barbee and Roy Barbee, both of Atlanta, Ga.; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Ethel Thomas, Mrs. Ivey Selfridge and Mrs. Myrtle Rigsbee, all of Durham; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. She was born in Durham County, daughter of the late John W. Leigh and Sarah Couch Leigh. She was a resident of Durham all of her life and was a member of Temple Baptist Church. She was married in 1907 to William Page (Bud) Barbee, who died September 10, 1920.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Berea Baptist Church. Rev. Crate Jones, pastor of Angier Avenue Baptist Church, Rev. W.L. Addleton, pastor of Cheek Heights Baptist Church, and Rev. Clarence Williams, pastor of Berea Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
