Mrs. Mollie Barbee
Mrs. Mollie Barbee, 87, widow of Julius A. Barbee, of 1417 Alston Avenue, died at her home Sunday morning at 1 o’clock. She had been in declining health for several months. Mrs. Barbee was born March 6, 1861, the daughter of the late George and Martha Hopson Barbee. She lived most of her life in this community and was married to Barbee March 20, 1890. He died June 26, 1947.
The deceased was an active member of the Berea Baptist Church for many years. Surviving are the three daughters; Mrs. Edgar Hodges, Mrs. Frank D. King, and Mrs. O. K. Herndon and one son A. J. Barbee, all of Durham; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; one brother, J. M. Barbee and two sisters, Mrs. T. L. Pendergrass and Mrs. Bettie Edwards.
Pallbearers will be grandsons O. K. Herndon, Jr. and Randall Herndon, Oliver Beasley, Wallace Beasley, A. J. Barbee Jr., Virgil Vigue, Ervin Huges, Robert H. Young, Jr., and Emerson Page. Honary pallbearers will be nephews Vance Pendergrass, George Ferrell, Robert Lowe Barbee, M. M. Thompson, Fleming Hilliard, Walter Kerr, Leon Gilbert, Ollie Jones. Dr. Waldo Boone, I. H. Page, Genie Shepherd, Marvin Frankin, Cleveland Cook, J. F. Parrish, Alton Thompson, Forrest Green, Clyde Barbee, Foy J. Shaw, Arch P. Thomas.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4 o’clock at the Berea Baptist Church.
The Rev. Calvin Knight, pastor of the church and the Rev. C. B. Norris of Wake Forest will conduct the services. The body will be carried to the church to lie in state prior to the services. Interment will be in the family plot in the church cemetery.
