ALLISON, Alice Thomas

Alma was born June 30, 1911 to Aaron Clingman and Clara Silvers Thomas in Old Fort; moved to Ridgecrest in 1945 and had lived at Mountain Ridge Wellness Center since 2004. Mrs. Allison retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1973. She was an accomplished seamstress, cook and gardener. She enjoyed crafts, flowers and her birds; loved her Lord, her church and her friends. Alma dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was loved by all who knew her. She was indeed a “virtuous woman whose price was above rubies.” MawMaw will be greatly missed by her family. She was the wind beneath our wings as she upheld each of us in prayer all of her days. We thank God for the blessing of having been loved by her.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents; her only sibling Dewey Clingman Thomas; her husband Clarence Edward Allison and their two sons, James and Paul Allison. She is also preceded in death by two grandchildren James David Allison and Paula Denise Allison.
She is survived by her children, Betty May (John), Martha McFalls (Jack), Linda Laney, Thelma Rhodes (Bill) and two daughters-in-law, Faye Allison and Pat Allison; grandchildren, Kathy Butler (Dwight), Jenny Graham (Ricky), Rex May, David Allison (Mary), Danny Allison (Sena), Nathan Allison (Stephanie), Melody Molinaro (Marlin), Melissa Frizsell (Mike), Michelle Flores-Hasegawa (Tony), Justin Rhodes and April Rhodes; great-grandchildren, Clayton and Jessica Butler, John Woody, Katie and Annie Allison, Dayton Allison, Josh and Jessica Norton, Shae and Taylor Frizsell, and Adriana and Alison Flores; and only nephew Dewey Alfred Thomas.

Chapter of Fatal Accident
Asheville, Oct. 26. – Jas. PRATT and Mrs. Dan SHEHAN, of Marion, were run over by a passing train near Nebo, a station five miles from Marion, last night, and instantly killed. Few details of the accident have been received, but it is stated that these two and Mrs. PRATT, wife of the victim to the accident, were walking along the track and failed to heed an on-coming train. Another account has it that the couple were killed. Both bodies were horribly mangled, and it is stated that fragments of the man’s body were scattered along the track for some distance. Both Mrs. SHEHAN and PRATT were elderly. There was another fatal accident near Marion last night when Horace NICHOLS, aged 24, the son of a prominent McDowell county farmer, was run over by a local freight and had both legs completely severed from his body. He died at Biltmore hospital early this morning. It is said that NICHOLS was alos walking the track when a train struck him and inflicted the injuries that resulted in his death. Robert WILLIAMS, a section hand of the Southern Railway, was also struck by an engine yesterday near Balsam, Jackson county, but his injuries, while serious, are not thought to be fatal. His nose was broken and he was otherwise painfully cut and bruised. Earle SMITH, an employee of a planning mill, at Marshall, Madison county, was yesterday caught in the machinery and seriously, if not fatally injured. He was attempting to make some repairs when he was caught in the belting, carried into the machinery and horribly crushed. One leg was splintered and he sustained other serious injuries.
