Obituary of James Burke ~ 2008

Mr. James Burke, age 69 of Nebo passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday December 30, 2008.  A native of Brooklyn, NY, he was born on April 27, 1939 to the late James Anthony Burke and Margaret Walsh Burke.  James was a member of Mt Calvary Freewill Baptist Church.  A veteran of the U. S. Army, he served during the Vietnam War as a paramedic with the 82nd Airborne Division.

He later served as a NYC police officer and corporate security.  He later retired as a nurse from the VA Medical Center.

Surviving are his wife Wilma Hall Burke; four children, Colleen Moore and her husband Bill and Kellianne Caudill and her husband David, all of Canton, GA, and Denise Valle and Tim Burke and his wife Sonia, all of Nebo; four sisters, Anne Pilato, Catherine Lorentz and her husband Joseph and Bernadette Partyka and her husband Robert, all of New Jersey, and Eileen Clauser and her husband Richard of Massachusetts; eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A funeral service was held on Friday January 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church with Revs. Rick Wood and Jonathan Cable officiating.  The family received friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.  Burial was in the church cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association of NC Western Regional Office 3801 Lake Boone Trail Suite 190 Raleigh, NC 27607.
