Obituary of John Clark Early ~ 2008

John Clark Early, 89, of Greensboro, lovingly known as the Candy Man, passed away on December 13, 2008 at Moses Cone Hospital. Funeral service was held on Wednesday December 17, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Lawndale Baptist Church with interment to follow at Westminster Gardens Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Gwendolyn Early; and one brother.
His immediate survivors are his wife Grace of the home; daughters, Phyllis and Jim Willard of Jamestown; Susan and Joe DePeri of Greensboro; Linda Phillips of Greensboro; Scotti Lanier of Oak Ridge; 2 brothers; 2 sisters; 6 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. He was patriotic and loyal to his country having served in World War II. He was a member of the American Legion in Greensboro, and Masonic Lodge 656 of Greensboro. He was a charter member of Lawndale Baptist Church and a faithful supporter of his Church as exemplified by his involvement in the Senior Adult Choir, his Sunday School Class, and serving as a Greeter on Sunday mornings. His greatest loves were God, Country, and Family. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Friends may visit on Tuesday December 16, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Street Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Lawndale Baptist Church. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Stanley Tennant, MD and Lori Cannon, NP; and the staff at Greensboro cardiology and the Palliative Care Unit at Moses Cone Hospital.
