Obituary of William Garvel “Bill” English, Jr ~ 2008

Mr. William Garvel “Bill” English, Jr. age 83 of Marion passed away on Wednesday November 12, 2008 at his residence. A native of McDowell County, Bill was born on May 6, 1925 to the late William Garvil English and Mattie Lou Sinclair English. He was a graduate of North Cove High School after which he graduated from East Tennessee State University. He then received a Masters degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He was also a veteran of the U. S. Navy having served during WWII. Bill worked with the North Carolina Utilities Commission for 21 years after which he became the Director of Transportation for the North Carolina Department of Transportation and then retired from the Federal Department of Transportation in Washington, DC. His wife Ann Cosentino English preceded him in death.
Surviving are two sons, Mike English and his wife Darlene of Manassas, VA and Tim English and his wife Amy of San Diego, CA; a brother Rom English and his wife Bobby of Marion; a sister Julia English Spicer of Marion; three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Sunday November 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Concord United Methodist Church with Rev. Chester West officiating. The family received friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial was in the English Family Cemetery. Flowers are acceptable and appreciated.
