HOWARD WILLIAM GOUGE
MARION – Howard William Gouge, 82, died Saturday, March 9, 2002 in McDowell
Hospital. He was the son of Lorenzo and Bessi Jane Byrd Gouge Sr. and husband
of the late Wilma Anne Robinson Gouge, and a brother, Carl Gouge. He was the
owner of Gouge Paint and Glass and was a U.S. Navy veteran. A member of the
Masonic Lodge and the Rotary Club, he attended New Manna Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Edwin Gouge of Marion; a daughter, Janet Gouge
Fisher of Arden; sisters, Maude McKinney, Elvia Kanipe, and Mary Lee Withrow,
all of Marion; brothers, L.D.Gouge Jr. and James Gouge, both of Marion; four
grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at New Manna Baptist Church.
Revs. Harry Nix and Tommy Hensley officiated. Burial was in Ballew Cemetery in
Yancey County. The family received friends from 10 a.m. until the service hour
at the church. Westmoreland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
