Obituary of Earl Grindstaff ~ 1999

Earl Grindstaff, 80. of 112-B North Ridge died Sunday March 28, 1999 at Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation and Care Center following a period of declining health. A native of McDowell County, he was son of the late Ernest and Alie Suttles Grindstaff, and was a former resident of Burke County and had resided in Buncombe County since 1989. He retired from Southern Railroad after 35 years of service as a conductor. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Morganton and of the Joppa Masonic Lodge # 410 in Old Fort. He was also a US Navy veteran of WWII. Other than his parents, he is also preceded in death by a son Ronald Melvin Grindstaff, who died January 12, 1995.
Surviving is his wife Elizabeth Lena “Lib” Piercy Grindstaff; two daughters, Nina Marston and Pat Allman, both of Asheville; a son Earl Edwin of Morganton; four brothers: Homer and George Grindstaff, both of Old Fort, Paul Grindstaff of Anderson, SC and John Grindstaff of Hilton Head, SC; seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Frank Hopkins officiated and burial was in Lewis Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to American Lung Association of NC PO Box 2702 Asheville, NC 28802. Anders-Rice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
