Obituary of John Avery Hensley ~ 2009

John Avery Hensley, age 89; passed away on February 17, 2009 at Mountain Ridge Wellness Center in Black Mountain. A native of Marshall, NC, he is the son of the late Leonard Hensley and Ada Hensley and brother of the late William E. Hensley. He honorably served in the United States Army and was stationed in the Philippines for four years during World War II. Following the war, he dedicated over 40 years of service to Ballew Motor Company of Marion. He retired in 1982 from Marion Fabrics, Inc. John was a member of East Marion Pentecostal Holiness Church.
John is survived by his wife Helen Taylor Hensley of the home, his daughter Rita Ann Parks and her husband Harold of Warner Robbins, Georgia; his son Mark Hensley of Raleigh, NC and one granddaughter Catherine Hensley of Oxford, NC.
Funeral services were held by Kirksey Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Thursday February 19, 2009 at the North Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery in Black Mountain, Rev. Don Reynolds officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorials to be made to the Western NC Alzheimer’s Association, Asheville.
