Obituary of Charles Senter Johnson ~ 2009

Mr. Charles Senter Johnson, age 88 of Arden, NC formerly of Marion, passed away Saturday March 21, 2009 at Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC. Mr. Johnson was born in Derry New Hampshire on April 23, 1920 and was a son of the late Charles Sumner Johnson and Pearl Senter Johnson. He was a member of United Church of Christ in St. Petersburg, FL. He was vice-president of American Thread Company and was instrumental in the desegregation of all the American Thread plants in the South during the early sixties. He retired in 1980. He was a World War II Veteran having been a navigator of a B-29 where he flew the China, Burma, India Theatre.
Deeply saddened by the loss of Mr. Johnson are his wife of 64 years, Evelyn H. Johnson of the home; four children: Timothy H. Johnson of St. Petersburg, FL, Charles S. Johnson, Jr. of Tetbury, England, Debra J. Laughridge of Burnsville, NC and Candace J. Goudey of Burnt Hills, NY; four brothers: Gardner Johnson of Woodstock, CT, Rev. Richmond Johnson of San Diego, CA, Russell Johnson of St. Petersburg, FL and Rev. Shepard Johnson of Peaks Island, Maine; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Hospice 581 South Allen Road Hendersonville, NC 28731.
