Obituary of Jean Somers Noblitt Jones ~ 2008

Transcribed by Joseph Cook

Jean Somers Noblitt Jones of Old Fort died Saturday October 18, 2008 at her residence, her work in this life done.  A native of McDowell County, Jean was born September 1, 1925.  She celebrated every day of life armed with enthusiasm and faith in all that’s good.  Wife of the late Duane B. Jones, they expended their energies to make Old Fort a better place, particularly the Old Fort Library.  Their love of learning has been passed down now for three more generations to their ten great grandchildren.

Her children treasure her stories as a part of their lives.  The stories of her parents, Rena K. and Newton M. Noblitt and her step-father Harlow Noblitt; her late sisters, Blanche, Doris and Ruth and all of her friends in the community are a part of their cherished memories.  Allen Jones and his wife Kyleen of High Point appreciate her gift of gab.  It was passed on to her granddaughter Lesley Klingensmith who lives with her husband Garrett in Savannah.  Tom Jones and wife Wanda of Boone have her love for animals and antiquity.  Nancy Graybeal and husband Danny of Easley, SC have passed down Jean’s love for church and family.  Their children, Daniel and Debra Graybeal of Liberty, SC and Jennifer and Michael Trotter of Pickens, SC carry it on.  Jean’s legacy will live on in Old Fort where she was a charter member of The Bethlehem Community Club.  She touched lives through her work with Meals on Wheels and the Red Cross.  She would not change her mind, her beliefs nor her heart.  She just changed lives.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday October 22, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Old Fort Presbyterian Church with Rev. Drayton Cooper officiating.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday October 21, 2008 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Westmoreland Funeral Home.  Interment will be in Bethlehem Community Cemetery.
