Obituary of Clifton G. “Pop-Pop” Lewis ~ 2008

Clifton G. “Pop-Pop” Lewis, age 85 of Marion passed away on Friday October 31, 2008 at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville. A native of McDowell County, he was born on January 16, 1923 to the late W. M. Lewis and Laura Davis Lewis. Mr. Lewis was retired from Continental Can Company in Baltimore, MD where he lived for much of his life. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served during WWII in the Normandy invasion and in various other battlegrounds in the European Theatre, a feat that he was very proud to be a part of. His family and friends will lovingly remember Poppop as a true gentleman who was always caring and respectful toward others. He also loved NASCAR racing.
His wife Jean preceded him in death. Surviving are two children, Glenn Lewis and his wife Norma of Marion and Kathy Parker and her husband Wade of Goldsboro; five grandchildren, Ashley, Justin, Haley, Chad and Aaron; two great grandchildren, Preston and Eisley; and two nephews, Ralph Brown and Danny Yeary.
A graveside service was held on Sunday November 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Cherry Springs Memorial Park with Mr. Benjamin McEntire officiating. Memorials may be made to Meal on Wheels at 100 Spaulding Road Marion, NC 28752.
