Harold Dean Martin of Old Fort, 75, passed away at his residence surrounded by his loved ones on February 22, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Martin was born in Cleveland County, NC to the late Fred Russell Martin and Geneva Harrill Martin. Mr. Martin was of the Baptist faith having been baptized at Nalls Baptist Church in Burlington, NC, and was a member of the Joppa Lodge #401 AF & AM of Old Fort, NC. He also served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife Ailene Gibbs Martin of the home, a son Fred Alexander Martin, wife Vicki, Old Fort, and a daughter Julia Rerych of Fletcher, NC, two brothers Robert Russell Martin, wife Linda of Morganton, William Joseph Martin, wife Ruby, Marion, two sisters Shirley Kimrey of Darlington, SC, Ramona Glenn of Burlington, NC; and three grandchildren Joshua Pyatt, Ella Grace Martin, and Kathryn Anne Martin.
The family received friends on Monday from 5-7 PM with the funeral services following at 7:00 PM at Kirksey Chapel in Old Fort with the Rev. Tim Lolley officiating. Burial was at the Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC at 2:00 pm on Tuesday February 24, 2009. Kirksey Funeral Chapel in Old Fort is assisting the Martin family.
