Obituary of Helen Dalton McCauley ~ 2008

Helen Dalton McCauley, 87, passed away Saturday November 29, 2008. Helen was a native of Old Fort, NC. She was a Peninsula resident since 1945, and a York County resident since 1980. Following her retirement from Civil Service at Fort Eustis in 1973, Helen was owner and operator of Seventeen Christian Book Store for years.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She served as a missionary through the Southern Baptist Convention at Fortaleza, Brazil. She was also a member of the York River Symphony Orchestra. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Theron McCauley; 2 brothers Bill and Dan Dalton; and a sister Doris Hauk.
She is survived by her daughters Doris Smith and her husband Michael of Fredericksburg, VA, Linda Lanning of Yorktown; 3 grandchildren, Shellie Ruppert, Ted Dalton Smith and Amy Marshall; and 9 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral services was held on Tuesday December 2 at 2:30 pm in Amory Funeral Home, Grafton with Rev. Thurman Hayes officiating. Interment followed in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Peninsula Rescue Mission 3700 Huntingdon Avenue Newport News, VA 23607.
