Obituary of Paul Edward McCoy ~ 2008

Mr. Paul Edward McCoy, age 83 of Marion passed away Wednesday September 24, 2008 at Mountain Ridge Wellness Center. A native of McDowell County, Mr. McCoy was born April 26, 1925 and was a son of the late William Patterson McCoy and Georgia Bailey McCoy. Mr. McCoy retired from Marion Mfg. Co. with 40 plus years of service. He served with valor in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre and received two stars for action during the Philippine Liberation. He was known as one of the “Fighting Seabees”. His family will remember him as a loving and caring father and grandfather. He was a gifted woodworker and craftsman. Preceding Mr. McCoy in death was his wife Elizabeth Justice McCoy and a son Billy McCoy.
Left to cherish Mr. McCoy’s memory are three daughters: Carolyn McEntire and husband Tim of Old Fort, Kathy McCoy of Marion and Nancy Bruner also of Marion; grandchildren: Amy, Benjamin, Angel, Ashley, Joneric, Amber, Brad and Nick; one great grandchild, Blake; one brother, Boyd McCoy of Marion and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Saturday September 27, 2008 at 3:00 pm in Westmoreland Chapel with Benjamin McEntire, grandson and Rev. Don Shepson officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 – 3:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy.
