Obituary of Ralph Edwin Neill, Jr ~ 2009

Ralph Edwin Neill, Jr. of Montgomery, AL, passed away on Monday February 2, 2009. He was born in Asheville and had resided in Mars Hill and Charlotte, NC prior to living in Montgomery, AL. He served in the US Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He graduated from Bald Creek High School in Yancey County in the year 1942 and attended Western Carolina University until entering the Navy in 1943. He later returned to Western Carolina to receive his bachelor and masters degree. He was employed by the Madison County Board of Education where he worked as a teacher and principal. He had also been employed as a teacher, principal and administrator by the Mecklenburg Board of Education. He was a loved curmudgeon by family and friends and will be greatly missed by all. He was the son of the late Ralph E. Neill and Elizabeth Gibbs Neill. He was predeceased by a brother Charles Neill and a sister Mary Helen Prince.
Deeply saddened by this loss are his wife of 59 years, Lallage, a daughter Nan Hudson and husband Fitz of Montgomery, AL and grandsons Fitzgerald Salter and Samuel Neill Hudson; a brother James Riley Neill of Burnsville; three sisters: Linda Wheeler of Burnsville, Betty Bullock of Boone and Clara Knight of Concord, NC.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 21 at 11:00 AM in Westmoreland Chapel. The family received friends from 10:00-11:00 AM one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Military Honors were provided by the U S Navy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to M.A.N.E. 3699 Wallatchie Road Pike Road, Alabama 36064.
