B. T. Nichols, 85 of Old Fort died Tuesday May 4, 1999 at his home. He was a native of Rutherford County, but lived most of his life in McDowell County. He was the son of the late W. O. and Ollie Burgin Nichols. He was owner and operator of Nichols Cleaners and Nichols Auto of Old Fort. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during WWII in the South Pacific with the Seabees. He attended First Baptist Church of Old Fort. He is the widower of Beulah Calloway Nichols who died February 19, 1997. He was also preceded in death by his brother John Nichols who died in June 1988.

Surviving is his daughter Jane Hudgins of Old Fort; a brother Cecil Nichols of Asheville; a sister Oveda McDowell, also of Asheville; two granddaughters, Emily Hudgins and Sara Hudgins, both of Old Fort; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday May 6 at Old Fort City Cemetery. The Rev. Randy Melton will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 Wednesday May 5 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Old Fort. Memorials may be made to Hospice of McDowell County 116 North Logan St. Marion, NC 28752. Kirksey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
