Obituary of Edward Alan “Big Al” Patton ~ 2009
Transcribed by Joseph Cook Mr. Edward Alan “Big Al” Patton, age 51 of Nebo passed away Saturday February 21, 2009 at Mission Hospital. A native of McDowell County, Mr. Patton was born August 2, 1957 and is a son of Fermon Junior Patton and Nina Faye Sisk Vandiford. He attended Pinnacle Baptist Church. He was a machinist and former employee of Master-Workholding; a Tar heels fan, and he loved camping and fishing. His family will remember him as a loving father and grandfather.
Left to cherish Mr. Patton’s memory is his father Fermon (Jack) Patton and his wife Sylvia of Nebo; his mother Nina Vandiford and her husband Willie of Nebo; two children, Chandra Houpe and her husband Patrick of Morganton and Blake Patton and his fiancée Kristen of Morganton; two brothers, Jackie Patton and his wife Judy of Nebo and Jeff Patton and his wife Sharon of Nebo; four sisters, Susan Holliday and her husband Jimmy of Nebo, Nancy Barringer and her husband David of Statesville, Cathy Patton and her fiancé Gary of Nebo and Sherri King and her husband John of Nebo; seven nephews, one niece and six step-brothers and sisters.
In addition to surviving family, Big Al was a beloved grandfather to Caelan Patrick Houpe, son of Chandra and Patrick Houpe and expected granddaughter Jacey Apple Renee’ Patton, daughter of Blake Patton and Kristen Mode.
A funeral service was held Tuesday February 24, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Pinnacle United Methodist Church with Revs. Brian Wilson, Gerald Stines and Steve Kidd officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the church. Interment was Pinnacle United Methodist Church Cemetery.
