Obituary of Shellie Cleo Poteat ~ 2008

Mrs. Shellie Cleo Poteat, age 89 of Marion passed away Thursday August 14, 2008 at Autumn Care of Marion. A native of McDowell County, Mrs. Poteat was born January 31, 1919 and was a daughter of the late F.A. Poteat and Minnie Jarrett Poteat. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Church and was a homemaker.
Her family will remember her as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Preceding her in death was her husband Leo Fern Poteat, a son Wayne Poteat and a granddaughter Leigh-Anne Poteat.
Surviving Mrs. Poteat is one son Phil Poteat and wife Wanda of Elizabethtown, KY; a daughter-in-law Joyce Poteat of Marion; a brother Glenn Poteat and wife Doris of Marion; two granddaughters: Debbie Brewer of Marion and Ashley Haynes of Elizabethtown, KY and three great grandchildren: Jennifer Ballew, Chris Brewer and Morgan Haynes.
A funeral service was held Monday August 18, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Dennis Burleson officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment was in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.
