Obituary of James Parks Simmons, Sr. ~ 2008

James Parks Simmons, Sr., 74, of Marion died Monday November 3, 2008 at Mountain Ridge Wellness Center in Black Mountain, NC. He loved his family very much. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Mr. Simmons always had a smile on his face and he never met a stranger. He was born February 16, 1934 to the late Clint Douglas Simmons and Leota Morris Simmons. Mr. Simmons was a Korean Conflict veteran of the United States Navy and he retired from Southeastern Transport as a truck driver. He was a member of Vein Mtn. Missionary Baptist Church. He was an animal lover and a Nascar fan. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Aileen Hensley Simmons.
Surviving are two sons, James Simmons, Jr. of Glenwood and Tommy Smith and wife Donna of Chapel Hill, NC; two daughters, Sharon Proctor and husband Del and Teresa Gouge and husband Todd all of Glenwood; seven grandchildren, Tara Smith, Nick Bailey, James Fox, Christopher Simmons, Jessica Proctor Boone, Breanna Gouge and Avri Smith; five great grandchildren, Ashton, Mackenzie, Karsen, Kamden and Miles; and special friends, Ed and Sarah Capps and Albert Morgan and John Waycaster. A special thanks to all the staff of Mountain Ridge Wellness Center. They were very good to Mr. Simmons and his family and he loved all of his friends there. Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 in McCall Memorial Chapel at Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion with Rev. Barry Gouge officiating. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family.
