Paul W. Simpson, 82, of Marion left this life on Thursday February 19, 2009. Paul, a lifelong resident of McDowell County, was born on April 9, 1926, to John and Della Cannon Simpson in Nebo, NC. He attended public school in Nebo and Virginia Tech and North Carolina State Universities. Paul was a World War II veteran of the European Campaign with the 7th Army in France and Germany. He was the owner of Marion’s Ford dealership, Marion Motors on East Court Street until 1965, then Paul Simpson Motors on Rutherford Road. He was a car dealer in Marion for over 60 years. He helped many McDowell County and Western North Carolina residents with their transportation needs. He will be missed by his family, many friends, customers and fellow dealers. Paul was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Sue Lewis Simpson, and son William Paul Simpson; brother Hoke, and sister Pearl Sams.
He is survived by daughters Rebecca Simpson James and husband Bill of Tampa, FL, and Linda Simpson Yarboro and husband John of Raleigh; grandchildren Westley James and wife Michelle of Tampa, FL, and Sally James Garcia and husband Paul of Tampa, FL; great grandchildren Madison James and Emily Garcia; sister Clara Simpson Jennings of Ocala, FL.
Visitation was held at Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion on Sunday February 22, at 4:00 to 6:00 pm. The funeral service was held on Monday February 23 at 2:00 pm in the Westmoreland Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Oak Grove Cemetery.
