Obituary of Blanche Ella Robinson Smith ~ 2008

Blanche Ella Robinson Smith, 92, of Old Fort passed away Wednesday November 12, 2008 at Mountain Ridge Wellness Center in Black Mountain. She was born in McDowell County to the late George and Jane McFalls Robinson. She was a resident of McDowell County her entire life and was a member of Old Fort Wesleyan Church. She retired from Old Fort Finishing plant. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Earl Smith; six sisters, Louise Liner, Sarah Burroughs, Nora Allison, Madge Young, Minnie Foster and Mildred Smith.
She is survived by nine children, Frances Griffin and husband Calvin of Matthews, Earl Smith Jr. and wife Linda of Concord, Thomas Smith of Marion, Mary Jane Walker of Old Fort, George Smith of Linwood, Nancy Smith of Fresno, Calif., Margaret Smith of Charlotte, John Smith of Charlotte and Kathy Lamb and husband Mike of Old Fort; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday November 15, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Old Fort Wesleyan Church with Rev. Bill Tietje officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. Burial was in Salem Freewill Baptist Cemetery in Old Fort. Blanche was an avid reader; so donations in her memory may be made to the Old Fort Library. Kirksey Funeral Home, Old Fort will be assisting the family.
