Louise Turner Duncan, age 85 of Marion passed away on Saturday January 31, 2009 at The McDowell Hospital.  A native of McDowell County, she was born on June 24, 1923 to the late Edward M. Turner and Bessie Hawkins Turner.  Her family and friends will warmly remember her for her kindness to all and her loving and giving spirit.  Many people knew her as a “Mother and Granny” to them and are saddened by this loss.  Two children, Mary Anne Wilson and Billy Wayne Parker, and a brother-in-law John Casey, preceded her in death.

Surviving are eight children, Peggy Casey of Rock Hill, SC, Truman Duncan and wife Grace of Marion, Robert Parker and wife Nancy of Rock Hill, SC, Butch Parker of Marion, Roger Parker and wife Patricia of Rock Hill, SC, Paul Miller and wife Patricia of Marion, Joe Miller and wife Rhonda of Marion and Donna Miller-Shuffler and her husband John of Florida, and Jamie Parker, who she raised as a daughter; a son-in-law Jerry Wilson; her twin sister Lucille Holland of Marion; twenty-eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog Cricket.

A funeral service was held on Monday February 2, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Revs. Chris Clayton and William Shuffler officiating.  The family received friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial was in the Chapel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.  An online register is available under OBITUARIES at www.westmorelandfuneralhome.com.

Glenda Ray L. Dockery, 59, of Marion went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday February, 18, 2009 at Memorial Mission after years of declining health.  She was a native of McDowell County and a homemaker.  She was also a loving mother, sister, and friend.  She was a member of Hicks Memorial Baptist Church.  Mrs. Dockery was the daughter of the late Lewis Ervin and Lula Arrowood Causby Ray.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband Ronald Dockery.

She is survived by her loving children; a daughter Cindy Ledford of Marion; a son Ellis Ledford of Marion; a brother Dr. James F. Causby and wife June of Candler, NC; three nephews, Cory & wife Kristle Causby and children Laurel and Bryce of Waynesville, NC, John and wife Amber Causby and children Peyton & Asher of Brevard, NC, Kent Causby of Smithfield, NC; two aunts, Maebell Arrowood & Jacquiline Pilkenton both of Marion, NC, and a number of cousins, family and friends she loved so dearly.

Services were held at 10:30 AM Saturday February 21, 2009 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Larry Cable officiating.  The family received friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday February 20, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial followed the service in Bethel Baptist Cemetery.  Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the Dockery family.

Davis, Steve “Easy” (2009)

Mr. Steve “Easy” Davis, age 38 of Marion passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday January 27, 2009 at his residence.  Born in McDowell County on April 1, 1970, he was the only son of Jack and Janice Killough Davis of Marion.  A longtime employee of Tom Johnson’s Camping Center, he attended Maranatha Baptist Church.  Fishing and hunting were his most favorite pastimes.  His family and friends will remember him for his easy-going nature and friendly disposition.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife Christina Mae Davis; three children, Steven, Briana and Tre’, all of Marion; a sister Trisha Styles of Marion; and his paternal grandmother Clara Walker of Spencer.

A service to celebrate his passing into his heavenly reward was held on Friday January 30, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Dean Silver officiating.  The family received friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial was in the Davistown Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Old Fort.  An online register is available under OBITUARIES at www.westmorelandfuneralhome.com.

Crawley, James Edgar (2009)

Mr. James Edgar Crawley, age 89 of Marion passed away Friday March 13, 2009.  A native of McDowell County, Mr. Crawley was born September 29, 1919 and was a son of the late Ivey Clinton Crawley and Edna Biggerstaff Crawley.  He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church (Tom’s Creek).  He was employed with Marion Mfg. Co., for 26 years and later retired from Bradley Lumber Company.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in World II.  Preceding Mr. Crawley in death was his wife Josephine Thomas Crawley.

Surviving Mr. Crawley are three children: Gale E. Galloway of Easley, SC, Vick Crawley of Folley Beach, SC and Jim Crawley of Marion; one brother Joe Crawley of Georgia; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Sunday March 15, 2009 at 2:00 pm in Westmoreland Chapel with The Rev. Laura Myhr officiating.  The family received friends on Saturday March 14, 2009 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Westmoreland Funeral Home.  Interment was in McDowell Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of McDowell County 575 Airport Road Marion, NC 28752.  An online register is available under OBITUARIES at www.westmorelandfuneralhome.com.

Mrs. Kitty Wright Buchanan, age 94 of Monroe, formerly of Marion, passed away Monday March 9, 2009 at her daughter’s home in Monroe, NC.  Mrs. Buchanan was born in McDowell County on August 7, 1914 and was a daughter of the late Thomas and Julia Staten Wright.  She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church.  Preceding Mrs. Buchanan in death was her husband Doss H. Buchanan, a daughter Ann Hollifield, three sisters and two brothers.

Surviving Mrs. Buchanan are two daughters: Dorothy M. Randolph of Monroe and Doris H. Stroud and husband Anza of Hickory, NC; sister Hettie Cuthbertson of Marion; three grandchildren, Lynn H. Randolph, Susan D. Cannan and Michael K. Stroud; one great grandson and four great-great

grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 11:00 am in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Susan M. Brooke, age 58 of Nebo passed away Monday February 16, 2009 at her residence.  Susan was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan and is a daughter of Robert J. Ide and Deloras McDonald.  She is a member of Nebo First Baptist Church, a homemaker and former babysitter.  She was a former school teacher and church secretary.  Susan was a loving foster parent and a member of McDowell County Pregnancy Care Center.

In addition to her parents, Susan is survived by her husband Mark D. Brooke of the home; two children, Ben Brooke and his wife Diana of Asheville and Heather Watkins and her husband Jamie of Glenwood; three grandsons, Landon, Nolan and Nathan; one brother Keith Ide of Michigan; one sister Peggy Kruzel of Michigan.

Sylva – Bruce Edward Bradley, 67, of the Greens Creek Community died Wednesday March 4, 2009, at Swain County Hospital.  A native of McDowell County, he had lived in Jackson County for the past 40 years, he was a Insurance Agent for Monumental Life Insurance Company, a graduate of Western Carolina University, a member of Woodland Church of Christ, son of the late Logan and Rosa McDaniel Bradley.

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Henrietta Stiles Bradley; one son Jason McDaniel Bradley of Waukesha, Wisconsin; two brothers, Eugene and William Bradley, both of Old Fort; and two grandsons.

The funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. Friday March 6, 2009, in Woodland Church of Christ with Brother Willard Cox officiating.  Burial was in Fairview Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the church.  Melton-Riddle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Janette Fender Bowman, age 65 of Nebo passed away Sunday February 1, 2009 at Memorial Mission Hospital.  A native of McDowell County, Janette was born August 30, 1943 and was a daughter of the late Grady McCager Fender and Sadie Cuthbertson Fender.  Her family will remember her as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving Mrs. Bowman is her husband Bobby Ray Bowman of the home; three children: Rick Bowman and wife Debra of Chicago, Wayne Bowman of Morganton and Shannon Jones and husband Steve of Marion; three sisters, Ruby Walker and Ruth Lavender of Old Fort and Mary Reel of Marion; two grandchildren, Jessica and Bud.

A funeral service will be held Saturday February 7, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Revs. Tommy Carpenter and John Church officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment will be in Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Ridgeway Freewill Baptist Church c/o of Robert Arrowood 706 Ashworth Loop Marion, NC 28752.
