Mr. Roy Edward “Coyroy” Wilson, age 54 of Marion passed away on Thursday January 15, 2009 at The McDowell Hospital. A native of McDowell County, he was born on May 28, 1954 to the late R. D. Wilson and Treva McCracken Wilson of Montreat. He was employed at Superior Machine Co. in Marion as a welder. A man of the outdoors, he will be remembered for his humor, pride, honesty and respect for others. He could be taken at his word and his family is proud of him, loved him and will always remember him.

Saddened by this loss are, in addition to his mother, two sons, Roy S. Wilson and Jesse L. Wilson, both of Old Fort; two brothers, Randall Wilson of Old Fort and Roger Wilson of Leicester; two sisters, Darlene McPeters and Sherry Wilson, both of Leicester; his niece Gina Groseclose; three uncles, Vester, Therry and Coy Wilson; and three aunts, Marchie, Lillian and Helen.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday January 20, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Stewart Vess officiating. Mrs. Locky Hennessee Wilson, age 95 of Marion died Tuesday October 14, 2008 in Signal Mountain, TN. A native of McDowell County, Mrs. Wilson was born January 22, 1913 and was a daughter of the late Robert and Lula Lonon Hennessee. She was a retired school teacher who taught third and fourth grade students in McDowell County for more than 30 years. Her husband Raymond Wilson preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sons, Bob Wilson and wife Cindy of Dunlap, TN and Joe Wilson and wife Candice of Raleigh; sister, Elizabeth Anderson of Sarasota, FL and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday October 18, 2008 at 11:00 am in Westmoreland Chapel, Marion. The family received friends on Friday October 17, 2008 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm, at the funeral home. Mr. James “Alvin” Wilson, age 77 of Marion passed away on Thursday January 15, 2009 at The McDowell Hospital. A native of Yancey County, he was born on June 3, 1931 to the late William Alexander Wilson and Bonnie Ballew Wilson. He enjoyed volunteering at the First United Methodist Church daycare. Alvin will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. A son Ricky Lane Wilson, preceded him in death in 1976.

Surviving are his wife Faye Murphy Wilson; five children, James Eugene Wilson of Marion, Naomi Wilson Stevens and her husband Ronnie of Marion, Susie Wilson Tipton and her husband Randy of Weaverville, Kevin D. Wilson and his wife Jeanette of Marion and Genia Wilson Johnson and her husband Matt of Marion; a sister Betty Wilson Brown of Asheville; a brother Thomas Edward Wilson of Morganton; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A memorial service was held on Sunday January 18, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Chuck Tripp officiating. Rev. Alfred Eugene “Gene” Wilson, age 71 of Nebo went home to the Lord on Thursday March 12, 2009 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. A native of Oliver Springs, TN, he was born on October 21, 1937 to the late Luther and Osie Queener Wilson. Gene was a member of Zion Road Baptist Church in Morganton and will be remembered as a loving husband and father. He retired from Levinton Southern Devices following 19 years of service. He loved the Carolina Panthers. Gene was called to preach many years ago and always preached straight from The Book. A sister Thelma Wilson preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Dorothy “Dottie” Click Wilson; eight children, Wanda Poteat of Nebo, Mark Wilson and his wife Renee’ of Morganton, Marty Kay Milton and her husband Terry of Morganton; Stacey Wilson of Conover, Kris Gravley of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Angie Neal of Charleston, WV, Scott Richardson and his wife Tracy of Nebo and Nikki Bedford and her husband Rodney of Logan, WV; seventeen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and faithful companion, Lexi Wilson.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday March 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Road Baptist Church in Morganton with Rev. Micah Piercy officiating. The family received friends on Monday March 16 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion where the body remained until placed in the church immediately prior to the service. John Edward Williams, 67, of Marion, NC, went to be with the Lord on Thursday February 26, 2009 at McDowell Hospital. He was born, December 10, 1941, in McDowell County, NC to Daniel Lee Williams of Marion and to the late Connie Wilkerson Williams.

In addition to his Father, left behind to cherish his memory are one brother, four sisters and several nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and other friends.

Services were held at 3:00 PM on Sunday March 1, 2009 in McCall Memorial Chapel at Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion. Burial followed at McDowell Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Aiden Ryder Williams, age 7 months, went to be with Jesus on Monday February 16, 2009 at Mission Hospital in Asheville. Aiden was born on June 20, 2008 to Jonathan Williams and Danielle Stevenson.

In addition to his parents, Aiden is survived by his paternal grandmother Holly Trumble, paternal grandfather Bobby Gregory; maternal grandmother LaDonne Turner and husband Kevin; maternal grandfather Tommy Stevenson and wife Dana; a sister Ainsley Williams; family and friends too numerous to list.

A celebration of Aiden’s life was held at 2:00 PM on Saturday February 21, 2009 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Dwayne Turner and Rev. Mike Church officiating. The family received friends from 12:00 pm to 2:00 at the funeral home. Burial was in Bethel Freewill Baptist church cemetery.

Glenda Bernice Skipper Whiting, age 61 of Marion passed away Monday November 24, 2008. Glenda was born in Rutherford County on May 18, 1947 and was the daughter of the late Garner Cleveland Skipper and Harriet Susan Hill Skipper. She was a caring LPN and a loving mother and grandmother who will be remembered with a warm smile.

Surviving Mrs. Whiting are two children: Michelle Eckenrod and her husband Mark and Anthony Whiting and his wife Jill, all of Marion and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Monday December 1, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in Westmoreland Chapel. John Michael Whiteley, age 59 of Marion passed away unexpectedly Tuesday March 3, 2009 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Oteen. A native of Baltimore, MD, he was born on August 1, 1949 to the late William Thomas Whiteley, Sr. and Margaret Sexton Whiteley Webb of Marion. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served during the Vietnam War. Fishing was one of his favorite pastimes. A brother William Thomas “Bill” Whiteley preceded him in death.

Surviving in addition to his mother are two daughters, Julie Whiteley Harrison and Jennifer Whiteley, both of Rutherford County; his step-father Claude Webb; three sisters, Lynne Steppe of Old Fort, Patti Briggs of Nebo and Claudia Rumfelt of Marion; one grandson Lucas Harrison; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service with military honors by the U. S. Army was held on Saturday March 7, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Philip Steppe officiating. The family received friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will be at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
